Boutip (2335), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 24, 2008 Bottle courtesy of the ever generous Hogtownharry: Poured a clear copper color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma consists of dominant citrus and floral hops with a distinctive touch of grapefruit all of which constitute a near perfect aroma. Taste is a mix between some citrus and grapefruit hops with a light floral malt backbone. Bitterness is not a dominant element and I somewhat enjoy the fact that a IIPA can be something else that a bitter bomb. Average body with good carbonation and no discernable alcohol. I really enjoyed the presence of grapefruit notes and the attenuation of the bitterness. This beer really makes me want to further discover the beer form this fine brewery. AmEricanbrew (1749), Louisiana, USA Jun 24, 2008 Great label artwork. Dark amber with a frothy head that lingers. Nice piney hop aroma with a mild pale malt breadiness. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Good flavor is sweet bread and caramel malts holding up tasty citrus and pine sap hop flavors. Has a decently bitter hop and alcohol bite to finish. Well balanced ipa here. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Jun 23, 2008 Pours a hazy orange copper with a thick off white head.
Aroma is grapefruit-apricot hop, some pine tones. Underlying sweet caramel and toast.
Flavour was firm malt body with a medium citrus (apricot/grapefruit) hop.
Finishes nice and clean.
I thought that the alc blended well. JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jun 19, 2008 Tall, thick head. The aroma is all hops with some grapefruit and pine. A little bitter, lots of hop flavor with citrus. The malt is a little sweet. Good, and tastes a lot like the description promises. blutt59 (2045), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 17, 2008 bottle, golden color with malty citrus nose, flavors of grapfruit and bready malts but hot alcohol bite is too prevalent, good overall but alcohol could be better subdued zombywoof (355), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jun 17, 2008 Fresh aroma of apricot, peach and pine. Foamy tan head with reddishorange haze color. Resiny hops and spice balance very nicely with the malt and apricot notes. Medium sweet, clean finish and zesty. Excellent and emminently drinkable. This is my new number one India Pale Ale. Another winner from Boulevard’s Smokestack Series. And for less than $8, well worth it. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 16, 2008 750 from a trade on BA. Very nice hefty pour, with a cloudy amber body pumping up a billowy, rocky head. Very strong citrus in the aroma, a bit of mango and tropical fruits too. Initially the malts come across wicked sweet, with a touch of booziness that’s almost too much. But the heat subsides a bit, allowing the hops to shine. Very rich body complements the malts, even if the balance is still slightly off. Enjoyable, even if it’s not quite as clean and crisp as I prefer. Glad to try it though. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jun 15, 2008 Updated: Aug 30, 2008(750 ml bottle) orange amber with huge, huge off-white head that took a long time to settle. Aroma was abundant grapefruit, maybe some apricot. Flavor was nicely balanced between malt backbone and citrus/pine hops. Bitter hops finish.
