Commercial Description:
Double-Wide I.P.A. uses Columbus and Magnum hops for both bittering and aroma with Chinook hops added in the whirlpool. It is dry hopped with generous amounts of Cascade, Bravo, Centennial, and Chinook hops. The resulting beer has a hop forward aroma, redolent of peach and apricot. The assertive flavor bursts with the citrus qualities of blood orange and lemon with a slight caramel malt backbone to balance the intense hop flavor. There is little restraint in the flavor of this beer; it is certainly not for the pedestrian palate.

Bottle. Pours a dark golden color with an aggressive yellowish white head. The nose is all citrus. Very hoppy from the scent. Taste was very citrusy and fruity. It was very balanced with a mouthfeel that was very nice and smooth. There was also a slight alcohol warming in the back of my throat at the end, no biggie.

My Bottom Line:
Earthy, coniferous, and herbal hoppiness profess bitter and fruity properties for the fleeting caramel-laden cereals to propel into a well-fed and pleasantly different Double IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the cloudy blond.
-The cushiony effervescence and the resulting airy mouthfeel makes for very easy drinking, especially for a beer this size. This almost feels like a Belgian-style Double IPA.
-The hop signature throughout is idiosyncratic and complex, ranging from farm fresh herbs (mint) to lightly wild strawberries and oranges.
-This may not be your typical hop bomb of a Double IPA, but it’s sure is a satisfying hop fix.

Bottle.

Sampled at Heritage Liquors Inauguration beer tasting in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a hazy golden orange and amber brew with a modest and thick off-white head that has some nice retention. Lacing is very pronounced after the head dissipation. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus and a touch of pine that over-powers the caramel and fruity flavors in this IPA. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of powdery and chalky caramel malt, plenty of grapefruit and citrus with some white pepper. Finish is semi-dry bitter with a a high alcohol and grapefruit aftertaste.

Sampled at the 1st Dickinsonbeer Hoboken gathering. Amber in color, slightly hazy. Great aroma of citrus, most notablly grapefruit with mango, some floral and pine. Taste is alot of sticky and lightly earthy hops- grapefruit, mango, and a solid piney bitterness. Malt backbone is solid and supports the assertive hop character well. Bitterness gets strong in the finish and lingers nicely. A touch of alcohol is notable in the finish, doesn’t detract much. A very nice IIPA.

This beer is cloudy with a red/orange color. It has a wonderfully heavy hops taste. A moderately sweet initial flavor with a moderate bitter finish. It has a bit of an alcohol taste, but not too overwhelming.

The pour was nice. A thick, three finger tall, sticky, off-white head emerged and produced great lacing above a brown, copper and ruby swirl that sat beneath it. Slightly cloudy. The initial aroma was citrus. More orange juice or tangerine than overly tart lemon or grapefruit. Some nice malt came through as well as some light floral and pine. The flavor was light citrus, malt, pine and some alcohol. Wish the alcohol heat was a little better covered up. The mouthfeel was nothing special.
