Commercial Description:
Double-Wide I.P.A. uses Zeus and Magnum hops for both bittering and aroma with Ahtanum hops added for aroma. There are two additional dry hopping regimen, employing Ahtanum, Centennial and Chinook hops. The resulting beer is hop forward aroma, redolent of peach and apricot. The assertive flavor bursts with the citrus qualities of blood orange and lemon with a slight caramel malt backbone to balance the intense hop flavor. There is little restraint in the flavor of this beer; it is certainly not for the pedestrian palate.

Great aroma of citrus and biscuits. Rusty orange with a rocky tan head that stays around. Caramel body with a pleasing bitterness and warmth. Not overly bitter, finishes long.

Bottle, marked Batch 08305. Pours a hazy, nutty brown with a foamy, long lasting beige head. Aroma of faded hops, caramel malts, and a little bready yeastiness. Flavor of nice pine hop bite up front, followed by malts, white pepper, and some citrus. Good duration and nice syrupy mouth.

Pretty copper color. Nose is great, caramel malt, mint, and of course a nice hop character. Taste was a little dissapointing. Heavy malt and molasses backbone, nice citrusy hops upfront, the finish was overwhelmingly resinous and pretty boozy. Might be an older bottle, I’ll have to come back to this one when it’s a little fresher

Bottle thanks to BuckeyeBoy: Copper color with a substantial off-white head. Great aroma with hops abounding mixed with the tires when you first walk into a tire store. Super hoppy, dried grapefruit rind, and did I mention, super hoppy with a mouth full of bitterness. Quite enjoyable. This brew will go after your taste buds. This is BIG IPA. Ouch!

750ml Bottle courtesy of BuckeyeBoy. cloudy orange/amber with a nice off-white head. Nice aroma, a bit like a sweet carmely BW. Quite bitter flavors, modest malt profile, not so much of the fresh west coast variety. Bitter enough for a dbl but lacing some of the hop flavor I look for. Nice though.

Bottle Pours out a copper topped with a long lasting cream off white cream head. Aroma of caramel and plenty of pine hops. Tast of more and more of the caramel sweetness. Tasty

I would have expected a little more aroma from this beer. I liked that boulevard is now in the IPA mix. You can never have too many.

750ml botle
Pours a cloudy, rusty caramel color. Forms a nice poofy white head on pour; lots of lace on the sides of the glass. A layer of sediment gradually settles on the bottom of the glass. This is one fine-looking beer. Aroma: Rich and malty with some floral hop tones. Flavor: Excessively bitter; not much of the citrus-y character I prefer from over-the-top American IPAs. But there’s enough sweetness from the malt to make this beer pleasantly balanced overall. Palate is hefty and full; this stuff practically has the consistency of whipped olive oil. Glides effortlessly through the mouth on its way toward the satisfied drinker’s gullet.

As I’ve noted before, I’m pretty tired of the smash-mouth approach many American breweries take to the IPA style. But even that smash-mouth style has some room for finesse, and this version finds its stride within that narrow window of finesse. Hence its high marks from me.
