Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA May 11, 2009 Thanks to FlssmrBrewAlum for this one. Pours a hazy orange with a rocky cream coloured head that just won’t fade, leaving great lacing. The nose is filled with musty, resin-like hops with notes of grapefruit, apricot and orange zest. The flavour is a bit boozier than expected, but full of hop flavour, not just astringent bite, though it is slightly phenolic. There is plenty of lemon zest, a toffee and light caramel backbone, and a nice hop resin lingering. The body is medium, slightly slick and has fizzy carbonation. A very nice IPA! jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA May 11, 2009 (bottle from Powers Liquor Mart in Colorado Springs). Pours a cloudy dark copper color. Large off white head. Strong grapefruit aroma. Flavors are grapefruit and alcohol with bitterness. Avg duration. Bitter finish. Medium body. Alcohol and light oil texture. Good lacing. Moderate carbonation. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA May 10, 2009 pours a cloudy dark amber with a very large foamy head, and great lacing.
smell is of light hops, earth, a touch of citrus, caramel, and a few nuts.
taste is of hops, caramel, pine in the back, and roasted nuts, ends nicely bitter. djd07 (724), Houston, Texas, USA May 8, 2009 Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange amber color with a large frothy white head that leaves behind good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is very hoppy with pine and peaches. Thin on the palate with a dry citrus hops with a spicy finish. Hides the alcohol, a very good IPA from Boulevard. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA May 4, 2009 Bottle. Moderate aromas of roasted, flowers and orange for the malt and hops, light soap for the yeast, and hints of toffee, date, and turpentine. Head is creamy/frothy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky orange/tan. Flavor starts lightly sweet, heavily acidic, and moderately bitter, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, dry, and has a lively to fizzy carbonation. It finishes astringent and very dry. I liked this IPA, bordering on a DIPA. Good smelling, just a bit off in the flavors. warfield (17), Colorado, USA May 3, 2009 perhaps it was the hype created by the launch of Boulevard in the Colorado market but this so-called double IPA would have been a great IPA. clearly doesn’t stand up to the legends available in the market. not nearly enough hops, tasted almost lacking in hops, very much watered down, weak brew. quite boring and simple. almost as if the brewery was cutting costs and shorted ingredients. almost syrupy in texture. something is just not right. thumbs down, sorry. joshpiledean (224), Ames, Iowa, USA May 2, 2009 Pours with a huge head. Slightly cloudy and amber brown. Aroma is hoppy, with sweet tones. Hops with a mellow sweetness at first, with a long hop finish. Leaves a creamy feel on palate. Heavy for an IPA. Feels more like a IIPA.
Very nice beer, would definitely drink again. JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 30, 2009 Lightly hazed dark golden color with a moderate off-white head. Grainy dry malt, caramel and citrus in the nose. Fairly standard fare. Full, nearly chew in feel. Full caramel flavors embraced by pine and citric hops. Seems muted at points. THe malt suggests english, the hops are purely american.
