valpoaj (310), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Mar 19, 2008 Murky copper pour with an obscene, billowing off-white head...tons of lacing to go with it! Aroma is very pleasant, if not subdued to many of its IIPA counterparts. There’s a good deal of piney hops, some citrus accents (lemon and apricot seem predominant), and sweet malts...more malt in the aroma than the average IPA on the market, and the overall character is mellow. Flavor hits up front with lots of hops...mainly citrusy, with grapefruit, peach, apricot and lemon standing out...a nice array! There is a healthy dose of malt in this to offset the hops...very nicely done! Bit of roasted flavor near the end, and this finishes extremely smooth on the palate with the telltale IPA bitterness, but not overly bitter. Love the malt backbone and the palate on this beer...great effort by Boulevard! Oh yeah, awesome bottle too...more bottles should have trailers and tornadoes on them!
LilBeerDoctor (730), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pours a murky brown with a huge thick light tan head. Aroma of floral and citrusy hops with caramel malt. Flavor of lemon, iced tea, alcohol. Meh, the iced tea is too overpowering in this beer. Not impressed by this one. Too sweet! sersdf (889), chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 30, 2008 purchased this 750 in iowa city at john’s grocery. all i remember about having it was that it was pretty hoppy, the hops were fresh, and i liked it a lot. since i’m in pursuit of 1000 and ratebeer has been down so much lately, shitty ratings will have to suffice here and there. fredandboboflo (715), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of grassy, citrusy (vaguely grapefruity) hops, plenty of sweet malt. Flavor has more malt, richer than was expected from the nose, with a great deal of hop bitterness that feels seems more flowery than grassy, still with that vaguely grapefruit feel. Wonderful balance of rich malt with lively hops, a malt base worthy of a big ASA yet without weighing on the palate at all as ASA’s can be apt to do. Superb. MrRain (319), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2008 750ml corked bottle poured into a small lager glass. BDW IPA pours murky and the color of tarnished brass. The head is huge and creamy looking. The acidic bite of hops dominates the aroma. This beer is very crisp and clean. The hops are strong but not over-domineering. There is a slight floral taste that adds character to this beer. The finish is quick, dry and leaves you wanting more. This is an excellent beer. jefcon (873), Arlington, Virginia, USA Nov 21, 2008 Boulevard packs a wallop into this corked 750ml IPA. Apricot-orange on the nose, very light in color, and ultimately floral and perfumey. The aggressive hopping is paired with an excellent choice in hops: they are fragrant and stingingly bitter. Mostly citrus and perfume. Well-balanced and surprisingly drinkable.
