3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 unclemike (1365) - Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA - JUN 22, 2008
Aroma is sharp with hops and slightly stale malts. Deep black in color with a fast fading tan head that leaves just a thin film of a head when settled. Fore is thin and watery and almost has a bit of lager taste to it. Some fairly tasty roasted malts follow and you get hints of coffee and some fruity notes. Finish is crisp and again lager like with more of that fruitiness
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 topherh (1709) - Kearney, Missouri, USA - JUN 11, 2008
bottle pours almost black, ruby at the edges, with a nice beige head. Chocolate and coffee aromas. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, and a nice hoppy bitterness. A little lacking in body, but very sessionable.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 WesKBob (541) - Bethany, Oklahoma, USA - JUN 8, 2008
Pours a dark brown/black with a moderate tan head. Surprisingly sweet aroma with hints of chocolate and licorice. Similar notes in the flavor, but are dominated by roasted coffee malt taste. Awfully thin for a stout. Not bad for the price, but not a session beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 8, 2008
12 oz, bb 10/13/08. Three-finger head that lasts fairly well. Cocoa and spicy dry wood nose. Tastes of prickly-spicy dry hickory wood, cocoa, caramel, and some sour-metallic notes for contrast. Bittersweet molasses and char aftertaste. Medium-heavy body is watery, with a dry, slightly chalky finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 NachlamSie (2077) - Tennessee, USA - JUN 7, 2008
Bottle best before October 2008. Pours a very deep red which appears to be black in dimmer lights. The aroma is fairly roasty with hints of chocolate, molasses, and coffee. Pretty straight up dry stout here, just thinner than I like my dark ales. The flavor hints at wax chocolate and semi-bitter coffee. Easy to drink, but nothing special.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jdmhawk (31) - Bettendorf, Iowa, USA - MAY 30, 2008
pours black with off white head. aroma is sweet with molasses and malts. flavor is of overly burnt malts, coffee, and is very dry like the name states. not my favorite stout by a long shot.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Trev (1424) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - MAY 6, 2008
Pours black with a nice tan head. Molasses, light hop and chocolate in the nose. Nice tight carb thanks to bottle condition.
Flavour was sweeter than I expected from a dry stout. smokey coffee flavour, a little nutty in the middle with a dry bitter finish.
