jonwayne4883 (401), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Feb 25, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Not a bad stout, but a bit lacking in lasting flavor. I’m used to a little more head and a roasted flavor, this lacked both. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 28, 2007 At Tap: Sampled at Whiskey Creek Wood Fire Grill - Hayes, Kansas. Light bodied, lightly roasty stout with a watery, dry finish. Mild coffee note and a clean, simple finish. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jan 18, 2007 Pours dark opaque brown with mahogany highlights. Thin cinnamon colored head. Smells lightly of sweet roasted malt, light sweet spice?
The first thing you notice is that the mouth is very carbonated, overly so. Masks the flavor. Some lightly roasty dark malt. Kind of limp and watery, no creaminess or driness in this dry stout. Lackluster overall. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Jan 12, 2007 12 ounce bottle brought to me by Grant from Kansas. Aroma isnt overly aggressive. It does have some roasted burnt malts in the nose. Some light grapefruity hops are also there. Lightly transparent dark mahogany color with a smallish khaki colored head.Light roasted maltiness to start. Light chocolate notes in the middle. Becomes thin with some light light hop bitterness in the end. Very thin and pretty boring. jimhilt (1664), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Jan 9, 2007 Pours a four finger, light tan head that fades to a ring leaving a little lace. Midnight black color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Roasted/burnt coffee nose. Starts with a burnt coffee flavor and finishes dry, bitter aftertaste that lingers. Not as dry as Guinness. $1.29 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, IA. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jan 1, 2007 Near black with a huge head. The head disappears quickly, though, leaving spare lacing. Aroma is roasty malts. Taste is moderately sweet. Finishes clean. Not bad, but not memorable. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Dec 29, 2006 12 oz bottle via jgd0608. Pours a dark brown almost black with a large tan head. Not getting much from the nose on this, just some toasted grains which is weird since it is a stout and not a porter. Taste is typical stout, roasted patent malts, some caramel and a bit of vanilla.Dry crisp finish. Tin body. High carbonation. Nothing really stands out. It is an average stout and true to style. DJC (238), USA Dec 18, 2006 Opaque body, with a quickly diminishing tan head. Malt, chocolate, and coffee aromas. Diluted smoke flavor initially, with coffe and a hint of roasted nut appearing in the end. Instant coffee and smoke in the finish. The Commercial Description says this beer is now available in bottles (the form in which I got mine), so it makes me wonder what it would be like from a tap. Hmm, maybe I’ll have to keep an eye open for that. In the meantime, I’d have to say this is my least favorite Boulevard beer, yet it still rates higher than many others beers I’ve had.
