Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 9, 2006 On tap. Pours nearly black with only hints of brown. Head is a nice pillowy tan. Aroma is woody, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee and a bit of chocolate. Relatively light mouthfeel for a stout. Very nice finish. Easy to drink. I’ve also had this bottled and mreusch is right, it’s not as good. Overly carbonated, I’d subtract at least half a point for the bottled version. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Dec 4, 2006 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Pours an opaque deep brown, almost black, with a thin light tan head that only lasted a few sips. Light aroma for a stout. Roasted malt and raisins noted in the aroma. The flavor was very subdued for a stout. The flavors that were present seemed to evaporate after a few seconds leaving a dry, nealry tasteless finish. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Nov 30, 2006 Bottle from Friar Tucks in Champaign, IL. Pours opaque brown-black with a nice brown head, nice sheet lacing. Aroma of burnt malts and coffee grounds. Medium mouthfeel and fine fizzy carbonation. Robust flavor of coffee, unsweetened bitter chocolate, and black patent malt. Finish is dry and slightly peppery. Not a huge fan of dry stouts, but this one was decent. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Nov 15, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown color with a brown head. Light malt and caramel flavors that are smooth but lack the roasted malts and robust flavors. Rating from notes. dustyk278 (25), Missouri, USA Nov 15, 2006 I love dry stouts and I love the Boulevard Brewing Company, put that together and I should get an extremely goof brew...Well, that is not exactly what happened but Boulevard did come through with another solid beer in my book. It lacked some flavor and the aroma wasn’t what I expected though. jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Nov 14, 2006 Pours very dark brown (just barely hints of ruby and brown shine through it) with a thick, hilly, dark tan head that seems to last forever. The aroma has hints of burnt toast, some hops, and some coffee. The flavor starts off bitter and burnt with a bit too much carbonation tingling the tip of the tongue. The middle finds some toasted malts and hop bitterness interplay. Also slight flavors of caramel and dark chocolate emerge and hide in the background throughout the finish. The finish also has just a hint of dryness in the end with a mild after-taste of predominantly hops and burnt toast. The mouthfeel is thick - and has considerable carbonation - almost stinging as you swish it around your mouth. mreusch (715), Olathe, Kansas, USA Oct 28, 2006 Bottle, but have had on tap many times before; pours dark black with a thick tan head. Mild roasted malt aroma with hints of burnt coffee. Bottle provides more carbonation than expected, with a thin, dry finish; tap gives this stout more appropriate thickness that stands on its own. On tap this is a great dry stout; very weak from a bottle, so a bit of a split rating. Boulevard used to, and should keep this available tap only. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Oct 18, 2006 Pours very dark, almost black, with a crimson hue and a good sized tan head. The aroma has rich roasted malt with some char. Medium body with some soft carbonation. Starts with roasted malt and hints of dark fruit. The finish brings in some spice / woody hops that mix very well with the malt. A very well made dry stout.
