KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2006 Bottle from eboats Thanks!
: Pours a rich onyx, with sublte highlights of amber. Low, flat head of cream. Clinging lace. Aroma is subtle smoke and chocolate. Flavor is a sweet rush of smoke, followed by more smoke. A pleasant surprise. Palate is a bit watery, but not much of a factor with all the taste going on. Good beer. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Mar 4, 2006 Updated: Mar 6, 2006Dark amber-tinged black pour. Dense, deep and lingering espresso tan head. I’m not sure how they manage such a nice cap of foam without nitro. Perked coffee and a bunch of fresh yeasty esters. A smell that reminds me of a batch of beer working on a nice ale yeast like Wy1028. A smell I love, but that usually has changed quite a bit by the time it makes it to the bottle. More coffee in the flavor, soft and gently roasty, a little lingering chocolate in the dry finish. Most dry stouts strike me as a little boring, but this might change my mind. Sincere (145), wichita, Kansas, USA Feb 28, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a cola brown, with a thick dark brown head. Rapidly fading large bubbles. Smells of smoke and alcohol. Tastes very much like coffee, chocolate and a little earthy. Very smooth mouthfeel, as is the case with the mid and end-taste. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Feb 27, 2006 This poured adrk and smooth. This is a good stout. Straight foward, chcolate roasted nose and flavors. Very good finish. I can’t recall who sent this. But Thanks! 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Feb 26, 2006 Thanks to tjthresh for this one. The beer pours to a deep ruby colored body that gets sufficiently black with quantity. The beer has a nice thick, lasting, creamy tan head. Excellent lacing. The aroma is bready with fresh unroasted coffee cherries and nicely roasted coffee with fresh oats. If you ask me, this beer’s aroma is up there with the best of them. The flavor, unfortunately, falls a little short. There are components of light roasted coffee, vanilla ice cream, overly sweet black malts. The beer needs more dryness, roastiness, maltiness, and smokeyness. The palate is medium-light. Weak by dry stout standards. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Feb 25, 2006 BottleBlack color with a bit of ruby transparency. Retentive tan head with no lacing. Nose of light city roasted coffee beans, burnt oats and bitter chocolate; moderate carbonation sting. The flavor is relatively dry but a balanced pseudo-sweet licorice and vanilla note round out the mouthfeel. The finish is creamy yet lightly astringent. A bit of smoke in the tail, which is of moderate length. Decent dry stout. Thanks to Brock Landers for this beer. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Feb 15, 2006 12oz bottle via trade with eboats! - Thanks Caleb! - Pours black with a nice creamy tan head that stayed very well and laced the sides of the glass. Aromas of coffee, and bitter hops. Flavor is nice coffee bitter with some hop flavor and just a touch of chocolate. Nice roasted malt presence too. Finishes dry as a good dry stout should. Palate is medium bodied and smooth. This is an easy drinking stout that I could get used to.. cdog69 (28), Richmond, Virginia, USA Feb 9, 2006 bottle. Some bitter hop aroma, maybe some malt. tan colored head that disappeared when I blinked. Black in color with some reddish brown hues. Flavor is bitter with some hints of malt. The mouthfeel is watery and somewhat fruity it finishes dry. Overall this is ok. Didnt really enjoy this beer much.
