I liked this one, even though it didn’t have any distinquishing qualities. poured a very dark brown with no light penatrating through my snifter. mild aromas and flavors of chocolate, coffee and some peaty smoke. finish was equally dry and sweet. didn’t have an aboundance of carbonation which suits me just fine. could easily make for a nice session stout. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

Strong coffee and licorice aroma with small amount of dark chocolate. Flavor is milky and full, with nice savory smoke notes. Pretty heavy on the patent malt. Overall quite tasty. Finishes pretty non-dry for a dry stout. Ends with some acridity and a bit much carbonation. zombywoof (358), Shawnee, Kansas, USA

There’s a light sweet chocolate and licorice hints with an earthy lively smokey finish. I like the old time depression era look of the label. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA

Very small thin and quickly fading head. Nose is black patant malt with hints of coffee. Light roast flavor with a slight sourness on the finish. Fairly thin and rather fizzy on the tongue despite bottle conditioning makes the mouthfeel a little distracting. Nothing really wrong with this, but Dry Stout usually isn’t the most mind blowing of styles. This probably would be good on nitro. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 20, 2005 Subdued aroma featued chocolate and coffee. Pleasant but thin. Very dark pouring beer. Light was visible through it but the light had to be bright. Very little head, also. More was expected. Light lacing on the glass throughout. The beer was quite bitter and dry throughout but a very nice drinking beer. Palate was smooth. A very mild stout, perhaps closer to a porter in many ways. PattyBoy (302), North Liberty, Iowa, USA
