GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jul 13, 2005 Had this on tap. Short tan head that stuck around a bit. Dark as night. Nitrogenated. Roasty flavor and aroma. Easy on the palate, so very drinkable. Not a hint of sweetness. Excellent brew. omhper (12153), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 5, 2005 Bottled, thanks beerhandy! Black, small head. Fairly sweet with lots of coffee and some molasses. Clean, fizzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness. loeffler (16), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 20, 2005 A very flavorful and drinkable stout. Has a fantastic smokiness and leaves a heavy aftertaste deep in the throat for continual enjoyment. The thing that really sells me on this beer is its smoky flavor and drinkability. This is definately an old standby for when I can’t find anything new to try but want something yummy. ericmc83 (200), Arkansas, USA Jun 16, 2005 Draught - As expected, there were hints of roasted coffee and a little chocolate in the aroma and flavor. Nice creamy head. It’s pretty straight-forward and simple. Nothing out of the ordinary. mybrainhurts (212), North Dakota, USA Jun 8, 2005 Midnight black pour. Roasted coffee, and mild chocolate aromas. Roasted espresso, with a touch of fruity, bitter hops. Thin and watery palate. Finishes on a dry and lingering note. Not to shabby. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA May 27, 2005 Pitch black pour with 2 fingers of large bubbled tan head. Dry roasted coffee and fresh linen aroma. A hint of ammonia. Pretty plain dry coffee and chocolate flavors, backed with a heavy dose of cream and finish of tangy sea salt. Aftertaste is tangy and a little oaky, pretty standard. KUEric (632), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA May 22, 2005 Updated: Jun 15, 2005Bottle: For a stout it isn’t the thickest pour or mouthfeel I’ve seen but not many American stouts are. I also really liked the slight carbination it had, something I think is overlooked in stouts. The head was kind of small but it looked good. The flavor wasn’t as chocolaty or coffee as Guiness, but its not trying to be Guiness. Its a little think, but I think that used motor oil would recieve at least a 3.7 on ratebeer simply cuz of thickness and color.
I’m not a huge stout guy ... and I think this is the stout for the non-stout drinker.
And while I haven’t tried all that many its the best domestic stout I’ve had.
Very smooth and tasty. RockYerFaceOff (32), St. Charles, Missouri, USA May 21, 2005 Updated: Jun 6, 2005Actually.. let me change this. This tastes a little too much like Boulevard’s porter for me to enjoy it on a daily basis. I’d rather have Beamish, Murphy’s, or Guinness. Nice try, though.
