COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Velvety black and perfectly opaque, our bottled Dry Stout is the somewhat livelier companion to our popular draught version of this enduring style. This surprisingly smooth, drinkable beer is a delightful harmony of smoky roasted flavors and tangy, coffee-like notes.

Flat black pour with a medium off-white head, little to no lacing. Almost no aromas up from the glass at all, I was suprised. Flavors of smoked wood and roasted coffee are dominant. Palate is very smooth, with a bitter finish.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2004 Draught. A fairly nice dry stout, comparable to Beamish. Very dark opaque near-black, served with thin white head, but with good retention. Aroma was lightly roasty with only a hint of chocolate and nuts. Flavor was again mildly roasty, possibly a bitter chocolate finish. Light creamy mouthfeel from the nitro. <P> Update for bottle tasting: I want to lower the numbers significantly (to 2.9) but I'm holding off. This bottled sample may have been off. It featured a pretty significant tang in the finish, which could have been an attempt to replicate the Guinness tang, or it just might have been accidental contamination. My notes: Thin fading head over a near opaque garnet, tinged brown. Caramelly chocolate aroma, hint of roast. Full caramel and ashy flavor, dry roasted finish. Tangy finish, lingering tang on the sides of the tongue.

Looks just like a Guinness. Nominal roasty aroma, mild roasty flavor. Not too much to it -- overall, fairly disappointing.

Dark and smokey but a bit thin. Overall pretty decent though.

I had this on tap at a resturaunt in Branson, MO. A bit hoppy for a stout (most micro-brewed stouts are) but the hops were not overbearing. Nice creamy mouthfeel. I like.

A decent stout with some nice creaminess.

Why in the world do some of the best brewers still serve their beer on nitrogen? Very flat, thin mouthfeel with little maltiness. One of boulevards worst.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2003 Aroma of nitrogen and some light, roasty malt. Color is deep ebony, opaque and with a pale tan, artificially buoyant, lasting, foamy head and lacing. Flavor has some lightly toasted, roasty, coffeeish, dry malt but is overall lacking and you really have to drink a lot of it to detect much of what's going on here. Usually I find the flavor about 3/4s of the way into the pint. Body is watery and creamy, nitrogenated and mouthfeel is very light. Finish is not there, nor is there much of an aftertaste. Quite bland, much in the manner of other nitro stouts. Draught only. Take my advice, try this beer in a black & tan with the Boulevard Pale Ale. Somehow, conjoining these very middle-of-the-road quality beers makes them into something more.

I had this on nitro tap last night and was extremely disappointed. I think that Boulevard is a quality brewery and makes good beers. I have to think that this beer was robbed of its flavor and hops by the nitro tap. I don’t even really enjoy the mouthfeel of nitro tap that much. All I got from this beer was an initial roastiness and a decent aftertaste. I got absolutely no aroma at all, and the bar wasn’t even smoky. I will resample again, because I think there is a good beer lurking here, I just didn’t get to taste it.

Best domestic stout in the market today! I pitty the people outside the KC area, for they may never get to try this truely great beer!
