Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Nov 16, 2008 Bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pours brown with a thin white/off-white head. Smells of earth, sweet malt, some citrus. Tastes of caramel, earth, tea, light spice. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Nov 2, 2008 Nothing fancy. Basic stout on par with Schlafly’s Irish Stout. Bit dark and creamy, but won’t excite you too much. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 31, 2008 12 oz. bottle - thanks to brewczar for the trade; thin, cola brown with tan head quickly fading; fresh, soapy and nutty aromas; dry, charcoal like flavors; surprising that their bully porter is so good but this is pretty poor; oh well, boulevard still rocks in my book JMerritt (1313), Macomb, Illinois, USA Oct 24, 2008 Black in color with cranberry highlights. Anemic, light-brown head is completely diminishing. Lightly roasty aroma, some subtle hints of smoke and toffee malts. Upon taking my first sip, initial impression is that this is overly carbonated for a stout, distractingly so. Flavor is more roasty than the aroma would make you think, bordering on some burnt wood notes, with a little black licorice and subtle caramel. Nothing really redeeming about this particular Boulevard offering. FlssmrBrewAlum (1053), Lisle, Illinois, USA Oct 24, 2008 12 oz bottle courtesy of a Drnk McDermott trade. One of the remaining Boulevard brews I have not rated yet. Pours a fairly black hue with brownish red around the edges. Not quite opaque. A decent brown coca cola head that is big enough, but dissipates quickly. Small lacing throughout consumption. Aromas are largely dark roasted malt and burnt coffee. A bit overdone. Taste is similar, with burnt coffee, roasted malts, and touches of bittersweet chocolate found hiding inside. Finishes bitter, but pretty good. A decent experience, but I’d prefer a Guinness.. and I don’t say that a lot. BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Oct 15, 2008 Poured pitch black. Aroma - Roast malt. Burnt malt flavor with some bitterness. Very dry. Nothing special. DrnkMcDermott (1831), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Oct 8, 2008 12 oz. stubby bottle. Pours mostly black, a half-inch light tan foam head. Nice smell with a bit of roastiness and noticeable flavoring hops over inviting malt smell. First taste impression is that it’s a little too highly carbonated for this style. Soda pop bubbles get in the way of what should be a smooth beer. Some brisk coffee notes can be found, but not easily. Smells better as I drink it and can get my nose into the glass. Leaves nice rings of lace around the sides. Some smokiness comes out a little further on, and a bit of orange peel. But considering this brewer’s wonder Bully! Porter, their stout is a bit disappointing. But it is bottle-conditioned; maybe this sample got a bit of over-eager yeast. fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Oct 7, 2008 Pours tiger stripe black with a medium beige head that fades pretty slowly but leaves no lacing. Aroma is smokey roast malt, camamel malt, dark chocolate and some faint bitter hops. Flavor is smokey roast malts, a little coffee, and some floral hops, some sweet caramel malt, and a little nuttyness. Finish is somewhat dry and mineraly, a little bitter/citrus hops. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side but fits the flavor profile pretty well.
