tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Oct 2, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours orange-ish black with sizeable beige head. The aroma is roasty with a good dose of cocoa, some planty hops, brown sugar, and something that strangely reminds me of sea salt. The flavor is weak coffee and earthy/planty hops. Assertive bitterness, especially toward the finish, with a bit of roasty sourness. A little on the watery side. There are a few chalky tones in there, too. lumpsowers (235), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Sep 30, 2008 Slightly chalky, thin for a stout, not awful, but not really what I’m looking for in a stout. "Stout Lite". maltdog (510), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 17, 2008 Bottle. Opaque, used-motor-oil brown/black; thin ivory film of foam. Mild “poopy” brett, metallic, and nutty malt scents. Bittersweet black malt and tinny/citric flavor, with whiffs of old newspaper and buttery diacetyl. Charred brussel sprout aftertaste. Simultaneous impressions of thinness, scant creamyness, and oversharp carbonation. Tinny and grapefruity overall. Unimpressive. BrewCzar (108), St Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 13, 2008 Bottle pours nearly black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Taste is bitter and slightly malty. Simple flavors match with a simple palate. bhensonb (4188), Woodland, California, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle from D&J Liquor in St. Louis, MO. BB 05/08/08. But it’s bottle conditioned, so that’s not likely critical. Poured nice and black with a good tan head. Aroma of dark roasted/toasted malt. Medium body with somewhat frothy carbonation. Flavor is dark toasted malt with some hints of smoke. More than hints. Might qualify as a rauchbier. Finish is about the same. It’s a good refreshing stout with a smokey bent. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 10, 2008 Nice near black pour with good clarity and quick fading light brown head. Excellent dark roast aroma. Malty sweetness and a bit metallic. Somewhat cloying finish. Decent stout, but nothing special. undsioux7 (553), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Sep 6, 2008 Pours black with a brown head. Slight roasted malt aroma. Taste is pretty muted chocolate and roasted malts. A bit of acidity. Not offensive. Pershing (146), Garland, Texas, USA Sep 3, 2008 Pours black with a medium size brown head. Roasted malt aroma and taste. Finished dry. Above average stout.
