Short, sour finish when cold, but as it warms, the coffee notes come out more. This is almost very good, but just falls short with the one dimensional flavors. Thanks to mjames for the bottles!
nitro tap-Tapwerks, OK city, OK-hmm, pretty standard for the fare and subpar for boulevard IMO-tastes like a little more malty guiness to me. very subtle palate and not much roasty flavor at all. hops are not present whatsoever. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Aromas were very slight. Maybe some detectable chocolate. Flavor was much better. Lots of roasted malts and still just a touch of chocolate. And another touch of mocha. Some hop bittering in the middle then more roastiness on the finish. Pretty good. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Sampled from bottle, this brew pours a dark black colour with a medium bronw head. Mouthfeel is light, not as creamy as i expected it to be. Subtle notes of coffee, toffee and oak. Taste is light, chocolate and caramel flavors. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 30, 2004 Dark, looks a bit watery. Nose is roasty, some coffee bitterness. Primary flavor is molasses, some roasted malts, a mite overly watery so that it tastes a bit like thin molasses. That being said, it’s not horrid, but certainly not impressive. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 2, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours orange-ish black with sizeable beige head. The aroma is roasty with a good dose of cocoa, some planty hops, brown sugar, and something that strangely reminds me of sea salt. The flavor is weak coffee and earthy/planty hops. Assertive bitterness, especially toward the finish, with a bit of roasty sourness. A little on the watery side. There are a few chalky tones in there, too. Kevin (1920), Colorado, USA

Tastes of prickly-spicy dry hickory wood, cocoa, caramel, and some sour-metallic notes for contrast. Bittersweet molasses and char aftertaste. Medium-heavy body is watery, with a dry, slightly chalky finish. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 24, 2004 On tap: Very dark brown with a decent dry chocolate nose. Body is really thin, but notes of chocolate and coffee are strong. No real finish to this, just continues on with chocolatey-coffe tastes.
