COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Velvety black and perfectly opaque, our bottled Dry Stout is the somewhat livelier companion to our popular draught version of this enduring style. This surprisingly smooth, drinkable beer is a delightful harmony of smoky roasted flavors and tangy, coffee-like notes.

BottleBlack color with a bit of ruby transparency. Retentive tan head with no lacing. Nose of light city roasted coffee beans, burnt oats and bitter chocolate; moderate carbonation sting. The flavor is relatively dry but a balanced pseudo-sweet licorice and vanilla note round out the mouthfeel. The finish is creamy yet lightly astringent. A bit of smoke in the tail, which is of moderate length. Decent dry stout. Thanks to Brock_Landers for this beer.

The aroma had me thinking that I was holding a glass of sweet stout, lightly roasted malts, fresh coffee, creamy milk chocolate. Good looking brew, regardless of style - a dark, dark brown with a creamy light brown (not tan) head. There’s a hint of smoke in the flavor of the roasted malts. Another daub of chocolate and some iced coffee adds to the taste. Moderately dry finish. Not shabby.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2009 Bottle (BB 08/13/09). Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (roasted grain, cocoa, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of minerals. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A straightforward, quaffable example. Noticeable noble hop aroma. A little rough/grainy in the malt department.

Bottled: Nearly opaque with a fizzy tan and fading head which produced little lace. The aroma has notes of chalky and earthy yeast esters, mocha and burnt malts, coffee, aromatic hops, and a touch of sour citrus. The taste starts with a balanced bittersweet offering with a minor apple and mint undertone. The finish has coffee, smoke, and bitters notes. The feel is fizzy and light, minimal body. Quite average and quaffable, a common stout. (Boulevard’s Bully Porter is much better)

Near black opaque with a smallish off white head. Light roast aroma, with flavors that follow. Straight forward drinkable dry stout.

12 oz. bottle, minimal aroma of malt and coffee, smokey charcoal flavor, not my favorite stout

Pours dark dark brown with off white to tan head. The aroma is mild burnt malts, hints of vanilla and lactose. The flavor is thin with some burnt malts, light vanilla and not much else.

Sampled from 12-oz bottle from Boulevard variety 12-pack. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thick off-white head that quickly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of roasted dark malt, chocolate and burnt toffee. Taste is smooth, creamy medium bodied, with flavors of toasted multi-grain, chocolate and allspice. Finish is a little tart, light palate, with a light toasted malt aftertaste.

Bottle ( 12oz ). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, via trade with mreusch. Deep clear ruby with an average mottled tan frothy head. Roasty, lactic aroma, nutty, slightly sweet, quite pleasing. Taste follows, more of a dry sweet stout - average slick body, mild carbonation, slightly burnt in the aftertaste. I liked it - and it’s been in my fridge for a year and a half too!

Dogbrick (4828) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 24, 2004
Acquired via trade. Pours a slightly translucent dark brown color with a medium thin beige head that disappeared pretty quickly. Very little lacing. The aroma is lightly roasty with coffee and a hint of chocolate. Medium-bodied and sort of watery at times. Coffee and hops in the flavor but not with much authority. The finish is dry and roasty. Overall this Stout is a bit of a letdown.
