Probably suffers from bad treatment at the Tapwerks that I drank it at. The bartender admitted that it had been a while since he had poured one. Black with tan head. Sour, lactic nose. Lactic characters in the mouth too.

Tap - small thick head, dark brown/black color, creamy smooth texture, roast malt flavor with mild coffee notes
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 otakuden (1558) - Vero Beach, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Appearance: liquid obsidian – black in the middle and slightly smoky see-through along the edges. Khaki cappuccino head is large, voluminous, and fades slowly. Creamy along the edges.
Nose: mild – almost nonexistent. Watery ashes. Faint generic burnt bitterness – brittle and thin. Burnt leaves and twigs.
Palate: far too thin and watery for this style of stout which tends to be a bit thin, but definitely not watery. Taking watery into consideration – ash and chocolate. Thin bitter acrid finish – ash, charcoal.
Final Thoughts: as a style Dry Stout can be brewed very well – Cigar City Hillsborough River comes to mind. Boulevard’s line of standard beers is quite good and I expected much more than what I got from their Dry Stout. A shame, but at least there are a lot of really good beers from Boulevard I can savor instead.

12-oz. bottle from tjthresh. Pours opawue with a thin patchy tan fizzy head. Aroma is dark roasted malt (hay), nutty, toast, leathery yeast. Medium sweet dark roasted malt, mild bitterness, no acidity, milky. Dark bodied and thin fizzy and oily palate.

Well, other than the appearance this is not good. Really a porr stout. Very glad the bartender let me sample this without buying it. Ick. (Maybe it was a skunked barrel though, who knows).

Black. Typical nitro faux head.
Not much on the nose. Touch of coffee, bit of malt.
Nasty nitro mouthfeel makes tasting much of anything difficult, as there’s not a lot of raw materials to work with here. Quite light, with only the slightest hint of malt, and a bit of finishing bitterness.
Creamy, drying nitro mouthfeel. Seems really artificial and confected. Not a fan. Drinkable, but barely.

Bottled. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of alcohol, burnt wood and peat. Flavors of smoke and peat. Finishes bitter--a bad stout.

I had this on nitro tap last night and was extremely disappointed. I think that Boulevard is a quality brewery and makes good beers. I have to think that this beer was robbed of its flavor and hops by the nitro tap. I don’t even really enjoy the mouthfeel of nitro tap that much. All I got from this beer was an initial roastiness and a decent aftertaste. I got absolutely no aroma at all, and the bar wasn’t even smoky. I will resample again, because I think there is a good beer lurking here, I just didn’t get to taste it.

Bottle. Opaque, used-motor-oil brown/black; thin ivory film of foam. Mild “poopy” brett, metallic, and nutty malt scents. Bittersweet black malt and tinny/citric flavor, with whiffs of old newspaper and buttery diacetyl. Charred brussel sprout aftertaste. Simultaneous impressions of thinness, scant creamyness, and oversharp carbonation. Tinny and grapefruity overall. Unimpressive.
