bottle. Some bitter hop aroma, maybe some malt. tan colored head that disappeared when I blinked. Black in color with some reddish brown hues. Flavor is bitter with some hints of malt. The mouthfeel is watery and somewhat fruity it finishes dry. Overall this is ok. Didnt really enjoy this beer much.

Strikes the sought-after balance between roasty depth and refreshment value. Black and austere yet quenching. First impression is "Hmm, a bit light," and then you’ve drunk four of them. Nitro tap predictably emphasizes the light and creamy, not unpleasantly.

On tap. A great nitro tap and a foamy tan head. The aroma and taste feature plenty of toasted malt and the aftertaste has some slight chocolate and coffee flavors.

Was going in with high hopes on this one and the flavor just feel a little flat for me. Really great and viscus dark pour with a small tan head. Great lacing on my glass. Aroma is coffee and chocolate, the mouthfeel was smooth and creamy but the flavor was just missing. Was hoping for more; still very drinkable though.

A dark black beer with a white head, not thick like a Murphy’s. The ’dry’ part brings the notes forward to the tongue and lets the roasted malts to some nice work in the mouth.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 otakuden (1558) - Vero Beach, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Appearance: liquid obsidian – black in the middle and slightly smoky see-through along the edges. Khaki cappuccino head is large, voluminous, and fades slowly. Creamy along the edges.
Nose: mild – almost nonexistent. Watery ashes. Faint generic burnt bitterness – brittle and thin. Burnt leaves and twigs.
Palate: far too thin and watery for this style of stout which tends to be a bit thin, but definitely not watery. Taking watery into consideration – ash and chocolate. Thin bitter acrid finish – ash, charcoal.
Final Thoughts: as a style Dry Stout can be brewed very well – Cigar City Hillsborough River comes to mind. Boulevard’s line of standard beers is quite good and I expected much more than what I got from their Dry Stout. A shame, but at least there are a lot of really good beers from Boulevard I can savor instead.

Draft on nitro at elliott bay pizza. Pours black with a dense, surging, creamy tan head. Big roasty coffee nose with baker’s chocolate under that. Creamy body, flattish, not too chalky for nitro. Nice dark chocolate mid palate with a chocolatey finish.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Bif (621) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 20, 2011
Bottle- Pours a virtual black color with a tan head that fades slowly to a fine film of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with a hint of coffee and chocolate. Taste of chocolate and coffee with a bit of dark fruit. There is a mild bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, smooth and creamy. Well balanced. Goes down easy. Nothing fancy just and enjoyable stout. Good for a few.
