COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Entwined Ale is the first production batch of a test beer formerly referred to as Nelson. While the recipe was adjusted slightly from the original tests, the use of Muscat juice remains the focus. The juice was combined with pale malt in the brewhouse for a beer that is light both in body and in color. It was hopped exclusively with a New Zealand hop variety called Nelson Sauvin, known for its tropical fruit and white wine-like aromatics. This unique session ale has a refreshing, slightly tart finish.

I really wanted to like this, and I hoped for some sort of exceptional character. It didn't work for me - it just reminded me of beer and wine mixed together. I thinks it's probably well made, it's just not for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - good size foamy head, clear pale yellow color, sweet fruit/grape aroma and flavor, very mild malt backbone, mild hops - OK overall I guess ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear golden, light colored with lasting white head. Smell is grapes as in a white wine. Light, slightly tart/sweet and pleasant. Taste is similar. like a wine/beer mix. malty, but not very sweet tasting and a nice white wine flavor. Kind of fizzy. Not bad. Unique and interesting beer.

Minty and skunky. Clear yellow, thick head. Lightly tart, white grape. Light body, thin. Tastes diluted, not overly grapey, but generally weak.

Pour is a clear pale yellow with a average white head. Aroma is white wine and pale malts. Flavor is grape juice and some dry malt. Watery but refreshing at the same time. Kinda reminded me of a white wine spritzer with a lot of spritzer used.

Straw pour thick white head. Aroma is earthy straw, light white grape fruitiness. Flavour is yeasty, white grape brightness when you hold some in your mouth. Otherwise dominated by year, straw, stylish crackery malt and light fruity tartness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lightly hazy pale gold - fairly lively carbonation - other raters have noted the subdued and subtle character of this beer - I can see this as being a turn-off for some - even I was less than impressed by the first few sips, but the longer I sit with this, the more I enjoy it - first off, the mouthfeel/carbonation is pretty lovely - frothy, firm structure - the combination of dry, crisp malt, and tart, dry white wine charcter is apparently what they were going for, and they kind of nailed it - sure, itís light and subtle, but that was also the intention - they were going for nuance, not a slap to the palate - there are also notes of dry apple cider and pear skin - subdued, yea, but bot boring - moderate tartness and mineral, again a bit like cider in he finish - give it time and it opens up nicely - if it wasnít such a pricey six pack, it might become a regular purchase for me this summer.

Pairing beer and wine together isnít exactly a novel concept but it never fails to be an interesting one. As a so-called "malt beverage brewed with grape juice," Boulevardís Entwined represents a fascinating development with this not-so-new idea. Pairing blond ale with white wine is a smart match but the resulting "beverage" isnít quite a home-run. The scent of Entwined is definitely reserved. Some sweet malt and white grape juice but thatís about it. Taste is understated, too. Malt is smooth and sweet. Though juicy in the aroma, the grape tastes more vinous - that part works since it was what Boulevard was shooting for. Unfortunately, the flavors are too minimal to catch your attention. This ale seems watered down. Happily, it doesnít feel flat. Lively carbonation makes this brew refreshing and keeps it from being boring. While I was disappointed by the less than dynamic flavors, the flavor balance is spot-on. The ale/wine elements work well together and you get an equal measure of both. In all, this is a good execution but I think the flavors of white wine and blond ale are too delicate (when combined) to create a full-flavored, satisfying hybrid. When compared to something like Dogfish Headís Sixty-One, thereís just no contest. Criticism aside, Iím glad I had this beer and Iím impressed with the idea.

Bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a small white head. The aroma has white grape juice, grape skins, faint pale malts and a sensation I can only describe as what I got when I messed around with my grandfatherís old pipes. The flavor has pale malts, white grape juice and skins, sweet without the alcohol.
