Commercial Description:
Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John Barleycorn’s cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes.

big up to tytoanderso for the bottle! apricot/sunset hued body with gigantic head. had to fight to get the cork out but when it released it came equipped with a huge pistol POP. aroma is quite dry with yeast dominating, a bready as well and saison like. flavor is coating spiciness with more big yeast and with ’fall off a cliff’ dry end. alcohol is hardly detectable but its burn and intoxication are more evident. very little like a barley wine and nearly less like a wheat wine.

This pours a large off-white that relaxes into a frothly blanket. Good lacing and effervescence with an amber color leaning towards orange. Bread, flowers, pine, leaves and herbs on the nose. The bread and flowers follow through to the taste and are met with citrus and slight butter. Beautiful, beautiful beer. It has strong competition with the BBQ and Imperial Stout, but this may be the best beer Blvd. has ever made.

Pours dark, hazy straw color with a huge white head. Aroma is fruity, yeast, some wood, and a bit of bubblegum. Flavor is sweet, citrusy, with some tart wheaty notes, a bit of spice, and a lingering finish

Orange color with a large head. Strong orange aroma. Candi sugar and some spicing. Light wheat flavor. Very sweet grains. A bit of yeast-induced spiciness. Quite perfumy and fruity. An interesting take on Wheat Wine.

Pair of pliers to get the cork out. Tons of carbonation with the pour. Heavy alcohol taste greets the palate. Settles into fairly sweet and oaky beer. Light in body. Very nice.

750ml bottle. Slightly hazy orange-amber with a huge, foamy head. Aroma of clovey/banana yeast, honeylike malts and citrus hops. The spicy-clove yeast dominates’and I couldn’t taste much of the oak aging. Chewy and sugary.

Pours a cloudy, golden color with a white frothy head. Nice patterning. Hint of cotton candy with some great spicy tones and a complex mild bite. Nice semi-thickness on the palate with a little burn on the end. It has a wonderful long finish. I really liked this one.

I have had this beer several times and in various incarnations, but this is my initial rating. I have noticed the current bottle run is more highly carbonated than the test batches and although this took me off guard with the first pour, it makes the beer very light and lively. This is a 9.1% beer that drinks a lot lighter. I love the subtlety of the beer, it comes across as very elegant. The aroma is light, mildly citrusy and bursting with a subtle, but evident fruitiness. The faint wood, spiciness & fruitiness of the yeast and the clean wheat all combine for an amazing taste that is quite complex. As the beer warms, the alcohol is evident, but not overwhelming. At colder temperatures, this is a beer that I think would appeal to most beer drinkers. I have finally found a wheat wine that I truly enjoy and I imagine that I have found a new favorite in the regular Smokestack lineup. I’m not sure that time will improve this beer, it will certainly change it and I’m sure it will taste very good, but this is a beer that is being released with each component of the beer beautifully balanced. Well done Boulevard!
