Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John Barleycorn’s cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes.

Bomber - pours a big fluffy head with a darker golden haziness and plenty of carbonation - almost effervescent. Aroma is similar to a hefeweizen full of tropical fruits. A mouthfeel is soft and bready. Obviously a big wheat flavor presence is dominant, however complementary to banana, papaya and breadfruit flavors. Upfront is bread then fruit then a spice then hop and then a long finish of crisp blonde ale.

Pours hazy (first glass) to heavily particulate-laden (last glass) pale gold with one finger of soapy white head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, patchy moderate lacing. (3/5) Nose is doughy wheat, mild banana and other fruit, oak, lightly boozy. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter, very mild tart. (7/10) Medium body, soft carbonation, slightly oily, dry and slightly boozy finish. (4/5) Not hot, but gently warming, particularly in the belly. Despite the moderately high IBU (42) I’m not getting a lot of identifiable hop character, and the bitterness is quite mild and well-integrated into the overall profile. Quite drinkable despite the beefy ABV. (15/20)

750 ml bottle from Boise Co-op. Pours out with a beautiful fluffy head, cloudy amber body with lots of particulates. Nice bready aroma, thick and heady. Taste comes out stronger, still bready, but with a lot of body behind it. Smoother than the average BW, ABV hides well in the background. Burn comes on very late, in the stomach.

From Kansas City, Missouri to Eugene, Oregon. The beer was like nothing I have ever tasted before. It is so hard to describe, so I won’t even try.

Bottle. Moderate cereal and light bread for the malt, light herbs and dried grass for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with hints of banana, clove, alcohol and some light dried fruits. Head is average size, fizzy/frothy white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear medium amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet. Palate is medium to full, oily, with a lively carbonation. A tasty Barley Wine with a lot of German Hefeweizen nuances from the wheat.

750ml corked bottle pours a golden orange color with a huge off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits with some grains and hints of yeast. Taste is a light fruit and grainy malt sweetness with a light spicy hop bitterness finishing with a mild dry white wine finish. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation that tickles the tongue nicely. Overall, this is quite well done, both balanced and tasty. Recommended.
