COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like India Pale Ale, Imperial Stouts were originally brewed with high percentages of malt and hops to help them withstand the rigors of a long sea journey, not to India but to Imperial Russia and the Baltic States. Our version is an over-the-top riff on the style, with a huge grain bill featuring several kinds of malted barley, wheat, rye, and oats. A portion of the batch has been aged in whiskey barrels, then blended with fresh ale before bottling. Za Vas!

I found this brew to be absolutely devine! Rich, a little chocolatey, big vanilla and burnt sugar. Roasted coffee and leather help bring up the back end. Very complex, may not be for everyone. A little on the dessert side.

Deep black body with a creamy brown head. Malts dominated aroma with notes of grapes, wine: very interesting. Excellently balanced and very complex flavour.

Hefig-malziger Beginn mit im Mittelteil aufkommenden Schokoladennoten. Dann deutlich bitterer, weiche Getreidigkeit, vollmundig, dann noch schokoladiger, voll, kurz brennend. Süffig. 12/13/13/14/12/13

Black with a small tan head. Toasty malts and a little oak on the nose. Thick black coffee malts, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla. I was told this was a defected bottle I was drinking, but it was so good.

Bottle 14512, Batch 2
Almost black beer, slight tan head. Aroma of malts, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, American oak, slight red wine notes. Rather sweet malty, wood, vanilla, candied dark fruits. The slight sourness in the background balances it well. Full body, quite thick. Wood and burned malts in the finish. Very, very nice.
(From 75cL bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen. Thanx for sharing, tderoeck!)

bottle @ RBBWG 2012 thanks to tderoeck. Bottle nr. 14512. Black coloured beer with a medium but diminishing brown had. Somewhat slightly roasted and fruity grainy hinted aroma. Full palate. Finish is roasted malty with some light sour fruity and herby touches. Lovely.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours black with tan head. Aroma of dark roasted grain and dark chocolate. Flavor is much the same with some sweetness and notes of fudge with faint hints of bourbon.. Heavy body with low low-medium carbonation. Overall, solid brew.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 - 2011 2nd batch / brett infected version – bottle nr. 14512 – thx to tderoeck – black with a mocha head – smells like sweet roasted malts, creamed sludgy dark fruits & plenty of berries – taste is bitter upfront, roasted malts, dark fruits & dark spices, toffee, coffee, touch molasses, slight vanilla, slightly sour & alcoholic in the finish, creamy & smooth, best liked beer probably at the RBWG 2012 – nice although I did have other favourites but I do tend to have oddball preferences
