3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (5023) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 11, 2004
Disclaimer, I have drank close to 60 bottles of this beer before RB: I'm still love the pour of this beer, nice deep copper hue with long lasting beige head and excellent head, just like I remembered. The aroma hints of toasted caramel malts with toffee tones, biscuit and bready, aromatic and grassy hops, light allspice, and dusty yeast esters. The taste starts malty sweet with a liberal notes of wildflowers and hayfield. Undertones of mild pear, traditional bittering hops, and caramel. The finish display a nutty, grassy, and a sublime grapefruit tone. The mouthfeel is above average for style, smooth and creamy, nice! You would be hard pressed to find a better American made Irish ale styled beer. Very recommended.

Too bad it's a seasonal. It has a great red appearance.

Bottle. Tawny brown body with a thick foamy beige head. Nose-big nose, sweet dust, stale hops, seltzer water, unsweet cola, crystal malts. Taste-good unsweet crystal malt, nice well rounded stale hops, great mouthfeel, perfect sweetens, great lactic, creamy, good brown ale notes, semi-dry, just a perfect mix of brown ale and creaminess, hops and malt are well done 9which, as an aside, is probably a good thing for a beer). An excellent rendition of a boring style. A perfect session beer.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2006 12 oz Bottle: Pours a beautiful deep brown color, with a thick, four-fingered fluffy golden-reddish-brown head that lingered around for a good five minutes. Although its an irish ale, I couldn’t help but think this what a beer should like in a british pub -stupid american i suppose mixing the two, especially since my dad used to live in england. Anyways, back to the beer, the aroma was carmel, malts, bread, apple sweetness. The taste is appley, malty, hoppy, wheat, caramel, and slightly metallic. TYhe taste warmed into a more hoppy beer than the original few sips.

Bottle. Malty and toasted aroma, same with the taste. Taste of toffee, coffee and chocolate. A bit of carbonation to it, and a nice aftertaste. This is a surprisingly good beer, wasn’t expecting it to be this tasty - shows what happens when you doubt Boulevard. 5.8% alcohol.

Pours a nice deep copper color with a full off-white head. There is a nice, complex roasted malt flavor that adds a wonderful smoky touch, but is kept in check by a fair amount of hops. I like scotch, and my favorite is single malt Islay, which has a deep smoky peat flavor, so that probably explains why I like this brew so much. I would like to pair this brew with a Welsh rabbit dish that uses a good sharp cheddar cheese and crusty bread. Stilton cheese would also go nicely with this brew.

Caramel. Caramel. Love this brew though the caramel is somewhat overbearing. Smooth though. I have never had any complaints with boulevard brewing company. they put out fine products and this coming from an irishman, is one of their best. to note the nose gets better as you go.

Excited to see it come around each year. Starts as if it were a stout lightened up a bit. Nice amber color, semi-strong, ale.

Pours tarnished bronze with thick white head. Nose is toasty with a bit of soap. Nicely thick on the tongue with biscuity and toasted malts, bread and subtle raisin. Nice beer.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into an English Pint. Pours a lightly cloudy dark amber with a half finger of off-white head. Aroma of light caramel and lots of bready malt. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Bread and caramel with a little bit of hops in there. Medium bodied with a thin yet creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. It’s worth getting the whole 6pack.
