4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 freeofthoughts (528) - Raytown, Missouri, USA - JUN 15, 2013
One year bottle pours burnt orange amber with a rim of khaki fizz. The aroma is funky and tart with some grainy sweetness. The flavor starts with a robust barrel note and warming grain but it quickly melds into a lemony tart sour with a very light Belgian must. It has a nice fitting sweetness that masks the intensity of the tartness and brings out some of the light fruitiness. It is low carbonation and finishes with a lingering tart citrus, light grapefruit and more so lemon, with smooth amber malts and a touch of barrel.

Shared 750 ml. bottle after sampling #3. Poured to snifters with a deeper, hazed orangy hue, a bubbly layer of off white head foam, and spotty cling to the lacing. The nose was light, but cleaner yeasty funk than #3, so no horse blanket, but more fruitiness, sourness, and vinous/grape qualities. More spritz & effervescence was noticed, and the finish was pleasantly dry.

Bottle shared by jmagnus87...thanks Josh! - Pours hazy roasy amber with a ring of light tan head. Nose is cherries and a light breadiness. Fairly tart. Taste is pretty tart with cherries, a touch of vinegar, some stone fruit, and bready malt. A bit cheesy. Well-carbonated with a fluffy body.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy orangey amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of sour red fruits, a little vinegar, wood tannins and fairly prominent bourbon barrel presence. Flavour brings out a bizarre combination of sour and bourbon qualities- don’t think I’ve ever had a bourbon barrel aged sour- with notes of vinegar, soured fruits, light acidity, and then the bourbon shows face. Not the best combination of flavours, as I don’t think the bourbon complements the sour qualities. Quite boozy and difficult to drink very quickly. Decent stuff.
