2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Corked bottle and served in Duvel snifter: Pours a reddish amber hue with a fading had and minimal lace. The nose has plenty of lactic sour’d notes along with some developing barnyard funk, over-ripened cherries and biscuit, milk chocolate and caramel malt notes. My biggest issue with this brew is the phenols and a noticeable rubbing alcohol character. Seems the fermentation temps were off on this one. I really wished this was less aggressive and not as boozy for it would have been a very nice Flemish Red... but alas., I am very disappointed.

Pours copper brown with thin fizz. Picking up more of the lacto than brett on this one. Great sour cherry notes dominate. Not getting any perceptible bourbon. Puckeringly sour. Dryish finish.

Bottle: Poured an orangey/amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and almost no lacing. Aroma consists of sour tart notes are quite dominant with light subtle notes of bourbon also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by tart and sour notes with light acidic notes with a finish that is closer to Chardonnay then bourbon actually. Body is about average with medium carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Enjoyable and well brewed top style without rewriting the rule book.

Opened at the end of year Ottawa tasting. Hazy amber with an off white head. Bourbon seemed muted on this one although there was a decent amount of oak, a nice tartness, caramel malt and doughiness, some brett, alcohol was balanced but present, moderate body and carbonation, nice tartness throughout

Bottle into a tulip. Pours redish brown with minimal head. Aroma of bourbon, red wine, dark fruit and leather. Taste is very nice - tart fruit, brine and oaky notes. Body is a little on the thin side. Overall a very good beer.

750 ml bottle
Thanks to tastybeer for splitting this with b3shine and myself at a local tasting. I can’t wait to open my Love Child #3 to see how it stacks up. I’d never expect Boulevard to be a potential sour powerhouse even though their Smokestack line is often stellar. This proves me wrong.
Aroma / Appearance - The bronze caramel body fizzes in place. Cherry pie, heavy sweetness, and a vinous aspect are maybe a bit too much like a liquid version of Twizzlers. Otherwise it is works well.
Flavor / Palate - Bready and warm the mouthfeel is chewy. Leathery edges stick to the throat along with a sour feel that emerges after a while. It might not have the sharpness of an all out sour ale but the balance makes it easy to drink. I’d enjoy a bottle by myself if I had a few hours to spare.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Traded bottle, Batch 2012-1, best by 03-2014. Hazy brown pour with just a white ring around the edges. Slightly sour aroma with a slightly acetic finish. Big tart flavor at first, a little malt in the middle and then a relatively short finish. A little earthiness/mustiness in there. Pretty bold. Nice.
