COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevardís Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but donít we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3ówith beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak. Terrific beer. Fruity aroma, almost burns the nostrils. Tastes like popsicles from summers past. Funky sour fruit flavors, sour yeast cultures and a fiiine bret finish. On top of that oak fills the mouth and the tart reaches the nose. Alcohol warms the chest.

My Bottom Line:
This lacto-heavy Sour Ale also pleases through its dryness and fruity simplicity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the pale amber.
-You could say the flavor profile is a tad linear.
-The fruitiness is definitely cherry-like.
-The wooden barrel component appears underneath the sourness.

Bottle.

This beer has converted me to sours. Cherries, brett type funk, slightly acidic, pleasantly sour, somewhat predominant oak, bourbon barrel. Dryish finish. Nice body. Very tasty! Wish I would have bought this when it was available!

Bottled. Tart yogurt, cherries, some caramel. Earthy, medium sour flavors. Pretty nice stuff. Complex and authentic red.

Bomber. Sharp nose of dark tart fruit. Clear bright copper color. Scratchy sourness, hard unripe stone fruit, rise up into tart grapes, some yogurt. Thin-medium body with serious astringency. Scrapes the tongue clean with each sip, full of good fruitiness. Like it quite a lot.

Late night share by RussianDragon. Thanks Dave! This is one of those beers I consistently missed when it was on shelves, so Iím grateful to try it. Hazy brown body with an inch of tan head. the aroma offers stone fruits, booze, lactic sourness, funk, cherries, vanilla, oak, bourbon. A party for the olfactory senses. Nice flavor. A bit boozy still, though this bottle has aged a bit. Iím not bothered by this, per se. Raspberries and green apple with a boozy funk - how interesting. Medium to full bodied and palate coating. While this is god, I feel like Cascade Brewing sort of owns this style. Robust, high gravity, sour, complex, wild ales. Really fun to drink. This bottle is a good one to share a few ways.

750ml bottle, shared at home with my wife, brother and his girlfriend. Pours clear amber with short lived head. Aroma of balsamic, brown sugar and vanilla. Taste is quite tart, with balsamic and brown sugar bringing up the rear. Medium body, slick oily texture. Overall: pretty nice, even if it doesnít really stand out in any particular way. Also, backlog notwithstanding, this is officially rating #700 for me. Looks like my New Years resolution to rate fewer beers, but rate them more thoughtfully, has been a failure so far. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Pours a hazy brown with sediment visible when backlit. Head quickly dissipates to a mild lacing on rim of glass. Murky throughout. Aroma is brett and citrus with notes of oak. Flavor is balanced cherries, brett, sour funk. Finish is lactic acid tartness. Outstanding.
