COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak. Pours Light brown/deep orange with frothy, off white head. opaque much like a quad. A Ton of light brown sediment. Aroma has a lot of orange, caramel and malt. Mouth is very sour but very good. A lot of malt and sweet fruits. Some cherry and orange. Creamy, Medium bodied with a Very dry, tart finish. Surprisingly, I didn’t detect any bourbon, anywhere. A pleasure to drink.

curepute (122) - New York, USA - APR 16, 2014
Pours a cloudy light amber with a tiny slightly off white head. Nose of brett, oak and dark fruits. Taste is tart with sour cherries, oak, lemon, mellowed brett. The carbonation, tartness and oak flavors seem to blend very well together. The finish is dry and has a buttery bretty oak thing going on. No sign of the booze in there. Great beer very complex.

Bottle @ Yespr. Pours unclear with floaties, orange with a lasting small white head. Aroma is bourbon, wood, cherry like sour fruit, mild cheesy and peach. Taste is moderate sweet, and mild+ tart. Body is medium, texture is fluffy(very light slick), carbonation is moderate. Finishes mild sweet with lingering tartness. Not bad at all

Rødbrun farge med lyst beige skum. Lukter syrlig frukt og noe gjær. Smaker syrlig og er godt karbonert. Syrlig og god i ettersmak også. En god surøl!

Bottle: Thanks, Jeff. Turbid, rusty penny looking pour with lots of hanging sediment; growing beige & gray tinted, chunky head. Aroma full of sour cherry skins, lemonheads, musty oak (quite musty, actually), lactobacillus tartness, back-end vanillin, & moderate suggestions of bourbon that never scold the nostrils. Tart! Very tart up front with more of that cherry & grape skin sourness, light acidic bite but not gut wrenching. Woody & tannic mid-palate with some bourbon flavor & warmth that never gets out of control for the style. Despite it’s presence, it still doesn’t feel or taste like 9.5% ABV. Brett-y musk, lacto tartness, & a dominant fruit skin finish. Dry, dry, dry as can be. Lovely sour ale!

Got in a trade with cyde. 750 ml bottle into tulip glass; bottled on 2/28/2013, best before 2/2015. Pours moderately hazy deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of huge sour cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, red wine vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, leather, musty funk, toast, light bourbon, light vanilla, herbal, and oak/yeast earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and moderate malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, red wine vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, pepper, leather, musty funk, toast, light bourbon, herbal, and oak/yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, red wine vinegar, hay, straw, leather, oak, clove, musty funk, herbal, and oak/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and moderate malt flavors; with a great malt/acidity balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, slightly slick, and moderately acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding wild ale. All around fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and moderate malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV with the balanced acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

75cl bottle. Large beige head atop murky copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, cherry, some lemon, funk, light plum, wood. Taste is moderately sweet, cherry, some lemon, plum, light wood. It’s pretty sour, but the sweetness masks it until you take a step back and scrape your tongue. Medium body, some stickiness, light acidity.

Gimmethefunk (15) - Portage, Michigan, USA - MAR 24, 2014
Pours a murky amber/brown like most beers of this style, perhaps a bit murkier than most. Highly carbonated with a nice light brown head. Aromas of funk, berries, and tart cherries with slight hints of oak. Taste is about the same with a nice acidity that coats the palette and leaves one wanting more and more. Almost no taste of bourbon barrels. I would pick this up again and again if it were readily available.

Clownoisseur (137) - Buchanan, Michigan, USA - MAR 24, 2014
Pours a deep amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of tart berry, barnyard funk, oak and a slight sweetness. Taste is very complex, with sour notes of tart berry upfront, coupled with an above average body of malts. Nice balance of flavor as the oak slips in, giving it some spice character. The bourbon is almost an after thought. The alcohol is so well-hidden this could sneak up in you at 9.5%. A dry finish allows some leather flavors to resonate along with a final touch a tart berry. Very crisp and well done.
