Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak.

Sweet tart, acidic - sour, oaky, fruity, light alcohol notes. Mostly clear, reddish orange color, with small off white head. Very sour, tart, fruity - citrusy and dark fruits and cherries, lots of oaky barrel character, big acidic notes, finishes dry.

Bottle... This beer balls!... Pours hazy and amber with a short-lived, creamy, white head. The aroma is a marriage of fuzzy fruits and cherries accompanied by a small, woody nuance. The flavor is equal parts lactic and citric acids with a light splash of acetic acid and a mild allotment of oak. Full-bodied with adequate carbonation. The flavor is just really sour and fruity with a splash of white wine vinegar. Acidic finish. World class beer provided by a world class guy, newcigarz!

Bomber. Pours orange amber with foamy white head. Tart aroma. Flavor is tart cherry. Touch of bourbon in the flavor. Nice and oakey. Crisp mouthfeel. Not a sour guy, but thought this was a nice beer.

Location: Bottle shared by someone (Dave?) at Dave’s Bachelor Party, 9/27/14, Palindromic Rating # 3993!

Aroma: This one has a nice mix of funky/horse blanket, berry, and tropical/pineapple aromas
Appearance: The pour is orange-amber with a small off-white head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is funky and a little sour, fruity (more sour than sweet), with a light oak/wood
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a soft carbonation, and a tart, dry finish
Overall Impression: Slowly but surely closing in on 4k and knocking off my backlog at the same time. I really enjoyed this one. This may just be the best thing I’ve had from Boulevard. Very nice.
