Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak.

Poured a light amber red color with aromas of funk, cherries, oak, light wine, some booze and some horse blanket. Flavors are cherries, booze, funk, oak, barnyard and some wine. Solid beer overall and could drink this all day.

Anyhows got this other reviews here and was hoping for a home run or at least a RBI double, This Child has A very good balance of the barrels and a translucent, hazy apple cider appearance w a nose that does not reveal much, yet the taste is has hints of port, Whiskey, almost a whiskey spriitzer? Very good

Pours an earthy murky brown with thin white head rim. Aroma of sour crab apple, raisin, currant, lacto, heavy brett. Flavor is super super sour, some leathery notes & vanilla.. Cranberry lemon oak finish. This is a pretty big sour.

Cloudy tan orange, small tan head. Light vanilla, tart cherry and slight sweet cough syrup. Very sour, mild amount of sweetness. Touch of spice. Very acidic, medium body, highly effervescent. Drys out in the aftertaste. The acidity really masks the fact that this was barrel aged at all. Very good, not terribly balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle. hazy copper colored beer under a loud, fizzy, cream colored head. sour aroma with bready maltiness and lesser berry fruits. light and airy on the tongue with some fizzy carbonation. the flavors are sour with some nice bready/butter notes which balance the intense sourness. this may be some of the vanilla notes from the oaked portion of the beer. i also get some leathery notes like the inside of a department store. finishes with berry fruitiness.

orange hughed beer with white head that dissappears quickly. Lemon notes on the nose with some vanilla and oak. Red wine noted as well. Nice and funky too. Taste is the same. The whiskey barrels are so amazing to this beer! Delicious!

Cloudy tawny amber body, white head fades quickly. Aroma is dry cider, brett, faint funk. Taste is strong lactic acid, peach, apricot, vinegar, goat, lemon. Palate is crisp, carbonation subdued. Still working on my brett tolerance, this is sour!

Split this with the wife during a challenging game of Wii bowling. Poured a clearish medium brown, for some reason with a nice head in my glass and virtually none in hers. Aroma was moderately sour with a good dose of funk. Flavor matched, with a somewhat foxy grape note of fruit running through the backbone. One of the most "Belgian" sours I have ever had from here in the US. Both of us really enjoyed this one.

Pours a hazy copper from the bottle with thin off-white head that leaves light lacing. Aroma is sour fruit, cherries and raspberry, a hint of plastic phenol. Taste is more sour, lactic oak sweetness, crazy sour. Wow, pretty awesome, light mouth, but amazing.

750mL corked and caged. Pours hazy orange with a tiny head. Awesome sour oaky aroma, tart fruit. Balsamic sourness, pleasing, fruity, with a nice woody finish. Lovely beer.
