COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevardís Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but donít we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3ówith beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak.

Pours a clear, red-brown glowing color, with a small, dense head. Smells of balsamic glue, topped by yogurt and peas. The aromas come well together, thanks to the wooden barrel, apple peel and a whiff of sour lemonade, together with a high acidity and sweeter honey. This promises to be a very sour beer. Has a well fitting medium carbonation with a slightly metallic touch to it, among a medium body. Tastes of an uncompromising bitterness, built out of funky bretts, old creamy cheese, glue, fermented milk and young apple rind. Its wooden, leathery malts build the balancing foundation of this beer, while they exhibit just enough balance to handle the tart onslaught. Its apple sourness matures during the finish, adding a ripe, sweeter fruitiness to them, while the brew remains its acidic tartness. While the beer is indeed utmost acidic and sour, it features a decent range of flavors, finishing with a well fitting malt sweetness. A straight forward sour, struggling with not becoming too one-dimensional, due to its dominant sourness, threatening to swallow all other flavors.

Bottle, shared with the cool people at 3 Fonteinen. This beer pours reddish ruby with a nice steady light beige head. Nice sweet sour cherry notes, apple vinegar. Medium body and an immediate attack of apple sourness. Taste is tart joghurt and rhubarb sourness.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Aroma is vinegar, lemon, seedy dark berries. Pours hazy dark amber with a medium beige head with good retention. Taste is mouth-puckering sour (10/10 on a sour sale), lots of acidity, with lemon and seedy berry flavors along with a medium oak presence. Carbonation is restrained and average (not too foamy). Delicious!

750 ml bottle. Clear Amber color with no head. Aroma is apple cider vinegar and traces of sour plums.

The flavor shows tart lemons, again vinegar and a big lacto notes in the back end. Secondary flavors of cherry and mild oak. Iím glad I didnít buy this bottle because honestly it everything about a sour ale that I dislike. Rather tart with strong notes of vinegar. Really just not my thing.
