COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard Lunar Ale is a cloudy, russet brown beer, with subtle aromatic notes provided by our special proprietary yeast strain. Lunar Ale’s distinctive rounded, mellow flavor is crowned by a crisp, dry finish. The old world art of bottle conditioning creates a secondary fermentation, resulting in a beer that tastes fresher, better, longer.

Original review date 3/11/2009... BBD 1/2/2009; 12 oz. was first beer on brew day this past Sunday, so you know I was looking forward to this one. Into a Cab glass, because...well, why the hell not? This bottle-conditioned deal pours a very turbid bourbon/copper/root beer-color. Head is about 2/3 finger but doesn’t make a day trip out of it. Retains good carbonation and sparse lacing. Definitely has some good wheat/yeast electricity along with mildly clammy sarsparilla sweetness. A little honey in there too? Hop presence is slightly piney and somewhat Germanic. This reminds me of a mild dunkel, but a little more carbonated. It’s interesting...the Saaz emerges more in taste as does a nice wheaty caramel, almost Munich malt profile...it’s quite austere, though. Nicely constructed...not uneven at all. With the weight of a hefeweizen yet the grain profile of a dunkel we have some smooth drinking right here. There’s a sweetness on the palate but the Saaz-ish hops and carbonation keep it light with a spring in its step. I could session this up during the summertime without fail...early spring works too. Solid stuff.

Originally reviewed: 3/6/09. Big thanks to monsterfat (BA) for this brew in a recent trade! Pours a tawny, mahogany color with very little head. What is there, disappears rather quickly. No lacing whatsoever. Smells of bananas, bread, clove, lemon. Taste mirrors the scent, as it tastes sort of like banana bread with a slight tart zing to it. Not bad. I haven’t had much of this style, but I like it. Well done.

12oz bottle. Deep amber pour, off-white head. Nose is nutty and roasted - flavor is the same with an off metallic note. Very odd Dunkel.

Based on rating in old notebook: I was never really sure what Boulevard was going-for with this brew. Why was the marketing always so mysterious? I just noticed Ratebeer classified it as a Dunkelweizen, which sorta makes sense (dark wheat) but I never thought of it as such before. Tasted from bottle into standard pint glass. Poured a mostly clear light brown color with moderate foam, little lace. Aromas of bread, faint roasted grain, faint fruit, faint hops, faint spice (can’t tell if it’s from the hops, yeast, or both.) Flavor is balanced but bland malt-sweetness/hops-bitterness. Perhaps some subtle complexity, but not a multi-layered taste at all. Nothing bad, but nothing super either. Light-medium body, watery mouthfeel, quick finish. Boulevard makes so many splendid beers, I guess I’m not surprised this one was retired.

Bottle:   Deeper shade of caramel, a little dirty, thin sandy colored head, sparce lacing.   Pale bockish wheat like aroma on the nose.   I get this sweet popcorn kernal aroma as well... odd.   Dull wheatiness up front, semi sweet grassy maltiness on the back.   Pretty tame, but at least has some flavor.   Clean, well certainly not enough going on to be wonky.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Now it seems that it certainly isn’t wheaty enough.   Exit is a little flat, very little flavor lingers.   Could stand to be beefier.

bottle, redish amber brown tall frothy head. Smell of lightly roasted barley, almost barleywine-ish. Good mouth feel but i didn’t taste much wheat in here but it might explain some of the odd flavors. past the malt it has a green slightly herbal off flavor on the immediate back end but it smooths out after a drink to a smooth slightly dry lingering malty taste. i think the hops make it off or something but it is drinkable. Got some to revisit as i heard that Blvd. was going to cancel this brew and make space for something else.

Bottle. Clear garnet brown with a fizzy off white head. Banana and wheat bread aroma and taste with a roasted cereal grain finish.

Nice looking, cloudy iced tea brown color but hardly any of its tan head remained. The aroma is dominated by yeast, which was a bit of a turn-off. The flavor is prominently lemon, yeast, and malt, a little watery and a little bitter. Likewise, the palate was thin and oily. It wasn’t terrible, just okay. I would drink it again, but not often

found an expired bottle. poured hazy brown. really good looking beer. taste was dominated by sharp lemon flavor. don’t remember it always being like this but was very awkwardly all lemon with dunkel flavor as a companion.

Bottle @ home. Slightly hazy, amber appearance with a light tan head. Quite sweet, dark wheat malty, big banana aroma. Pretty light bodied, quite sweet, big banana wheat malty flavor. Body is a little weak and the banana flavor is a little overpowering. Not at all great.

12 oz Bottle, pours walnut brown with little head. Not as good as I hoped with little aroma, No Finnish, kind of blah.
