COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Pours hazy amber with a thin off-white head. Notes of caramel, bubble gum, spice, toffee, raisins, port wine, and dark fruits. Full bodied, lightly alcoholic with soft carbonation.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy ruby red with off white head. Aroma is full of fruit, dark sugars and some alcohol. Flavor is full of rich esters, and sugars with strong alcohol coming through. Nice quad..would do well with bit more age.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby color with a big foamy off white head. Nose is fruity with cherries, light sourness, tart peaches? Palate is thick, syrupy with a heavy fizz note on the tongue. Biting swallow, thick heavy film on the tongue and molars. Flavors of candied sugars, plenty of ripe fruit, sticky sweet malts, almost a bitter melon and honey dew presence.

Pours cloudy and red-orange with a large, quickly reducing, off white head. Smells sweet, bright and slightly floral as I would expect. Oh wow! That’s a taste! As sweet as it is alcoholic and although strong, not sloppy or unbalanced. Sweetness actually lingers on the palate, but this is a strong, stiffly carbonated daddy drink. I was gonna drink the whole bottle, but I just quadru-fell on my ass. Good, but not my cup of tea...er...glass of beer. Overall a pretty good offering for Boulevard’s first foray into fringe craft beers with the Smokestack series.

Pours a murky copper-brown, sizable white head. Pleasant fruity aroma, figs, raisins, fruitcake... quite flavorful, bright and very sweet, full-bodied, lingers, a little boozy, tasty. Good.

[Bottle] Deep reddish amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is a little muddled--just sweet fruitiness and alcohol. Taste is a little hot, but some nice stuff mixed in--plum, some almond, very sweet. There is also some caramel and red apple mixed in. Full mouthfeel, smooth, long finish. Overall, a decent beer, although a little hot, and the aroma leaves a little to be desired.

Corked & casked bottle made a loud pop! and poured mahogany color with an off-white head. Smells yeasty/malty/alcoholic. Aroma is full of candy, plums, raisins, and very slight floral hops, but with a big malt backbone. Taste is sweet with a bit of spice and lots of carbonation. This one is a sipper, as the demon on the label warns us to stop before the sixth glass of this. A good, potent quadrupel, worth trying once.
