Nutcracker Ale is Boulevard’s special offering for the holiday season. This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the "spiciness" of freshly harvested "wet" Chinook hops.

12oz bottle poured into a Blvd tulip glass. I think this is the first batch where the neck label has the year. Coded 3274 = bottled on April 1, 2013, which seems super early. Best by 2/07/14. Pours with a nice medium sized strong head that fades to a thick surface covering lacing. Has a beautiful deep amber color with ruby tints, some haze up against a light. A little visible carbonation in the middle of the glass. Very pretty beer, particular the hue against the light. Aroma is strong with fruited light alcohol and hops. Hops are some citrus, some pine, some bitterness - a relatively nice mix. The English character is a bit like a milder Young’s Old Nick (anyone remember that beer?). The flavor is a nice balance of English fruit character with bitter hops. A nice medium bitter finish. A spritzy feel to go along with the tickling hop flavors. A nice beer, I prefer my Winter Warmers to be less hop centric and I would rather drink the Nutsack and ago all out for the hops.

Mildly sweet flavor with seasonal spices. Swallow leaves bitter aftertaste. Slight sweet smell. Not bad but not great either.

On tap in a flight at Ale Yeah! Light brown color, with a medium, bubbly, beige head. The aroma is brown sugar, ginger snaps, and light resinous hops, and some chalkiness. The flavor is grainy and sweet, with light bitterness. Light to medium body, grainy, and acerbic. Overall, this is a nice, light, and malty beer, but it’s nothing special.

This beer pours from a bottle a beautiful cloudy chestnut color with a medium light tan head. The aroma is nice and pleasing due to the strong nutty and roasted malt scent mixed with the smallest hint of resin hops. This smell is intriguing enough that the taste’s overall subtly and balance is a nice surprise. There is definitely a mild hoppy bitterness characteristic to the otherwise slightly sour and slightly umami taste, which is a bit surprising to find in a Christmas beer. However, the palate helps round everything due to its soft carbonation, medium body, abrupt finish, and thick texture, making the beer very drinkable and enjoyable.

Aroma of crackers, alcohol, and caramel. Tastes bready, boozy, and slightly hoppy, but not IPA-like. A little weird. I know I’ve had this before, don’t remember liking it especially, and still find it merely okay. Love Boulevard, but this isn’t one of the best examples of an English Strong, IMO.

Bottle, pours a cloudy orange-brown body with a quickly disappearing yellowish brown head. Aroma of caramel malts, molasses, and sugars with some citrus hops and spices. Taste is similar with a greater citrus/pine hop presence than in the aroma. Sweet finish with a slight lingering hop bitterness.

Deep red-amber with a weak head Aroma is a mismash of components that dont gel at first: spices, caramel, earthy hops ... But this improved with some warming or just the repeated tasting. The flavor was initially better than the aroma but as the latter improved they became more similar in both quality and character. O: an interesting and distinct winter ale. Not challenging.

Pours a translucent deep amber with a medium bubbly off white head. Aroma of caramel malt, nuts, toffee and piney hops. Flavor of caramel, toffee, brown sugar and some pine/citrusy hop notes.

Superb. First, aroma -- I could smell this all day. Beautifully sweet and winter spice on the nose. One of the more aromatic specimens of this variety. Taste is solid as well. Requisite malt base with solid winter spices. But it's 80 F in Arizona! Oh well. A- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
