Nutcracker Ale is Boulevardís special offering for the holiday season. This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the "spiciness" of freshly harvested "wet" Chinook hops.

12 oz. bottle served in a DFH signature glass. Best by 2/28/2012. A: Pours a light plum color with some mixes of brown also. The head is very large on the pour, about two inches in height, that sticks around for quite some time and leaves some sticky sheets of lace. S: Caramel malts, some dark fruit, light sweetness and yeasty spice all mix in the nose. Doesnít really smell like the typical winter warmer. T: The toffee malts are the base for the taste, but the yeast really comes through giving it a little spice. Some clove and sweet fruits round it out. M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slighty chewy texture. It just doesnít seem to work with this style. O: This isnít your typical winter warmer. I thought it was more of a weizenbock type beer than anything else. Not a bad beer, but nothing special by any means and donít go in thinking youíre going to get a boozy and sweet winter warmer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-18-2012

Bottle at home, from my Minneapolis Town Hall glass. Pours deep walnut brown, thin tan head, great lacing. Nose is spicy: cinnamon, clove, cardamom, peppercorn, fruitcake, syrup really delectable. Flavours are equally spicy, with pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, sarsaparilla, bark, fennel, and fruit.. A great seasonal brew!

1/19/2010 - The Boulevard Nut Cracker Ale is one of the many winter warmers shuffled into a rather broad category of malty, dark, flavorsome beers who go well with a pipe or a cookie, but without anything phenotypically special. This one is sweeter than most, boasting more malty and caramel sugars, but it also comes with more bitterness. Molasses forms much of the flavor here, but itís thick drinking and borderlines somewhere between a beer and a dessert. I also suffered from the strange after effect of profound thirst. Still, the Nutcracker would do well as a more ďextremeĒ beer in a bucket or cooler of winter brews for a party.

Poured out of a 12oz into a tulip glass. Nice copper/amber color, almost transparent. A dirty-white quarter inch head. Smells of hops. Citrus and Granny Smith apple. Tastes malty rounded out by hoppy bitterness. Thereís a little apple or pear at the end too. Soft texture. Light carbonation. A good beer. Great balance. The fruit notes on the nose and tongue were really nice. I really liked the texture, it was almost creamy.

12oz bottle dated best by 2/28/12 poured into english pint glass Aroma: Pine, hops, caramel, bread, resin, herbs, woody Appearance: hazy coppery brown. 1 finger of off white frothy head that lingered a bit. Laces glass nicely. Taste: mild sweet, medium bitter, heavy sour Palate: finish is bitter and sour. very off putting. medium body and creamy texture. lively carbonation. mouth feel is good Overall: This is one of my least favorite boulevard beers. Have not had it for a few years and still donít like it. Too much bitter and sour with no sweet to balance it. Alot of pine and wood that I donít really like either. Wanted to give this one another chance but it was still another let down
