3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 maltdog (587) - Pueblo, Colorado, USA - SEP 17, 2008
Bottle. Near-clear traffic light amber, appropriate carbonation, short soapsud head. The nose combines lemondrop PNW and woodsy/cheesy/Fuggley hops, plus wet slate or iron. Also scents of cherry pie and buttery malt. Not bad, but weirdly unexpected flavor- caramelly malts, Lifesaver candy fruitiness, mineral water. Minty/woody finish, lingering peppery aftertaste. Light and slick/oily mouthfeel. Just an okay APA; I get more of a UK than US impression.

12 oz. bottle. From a 12-pack sampler of 6 different Boulevard beers at Hy-Vees across Iowa. Brassy body with a little haze, steady stream of bubbles under a thick white head. Hops in smell are friendlier than your Alpha King, More sharp than citrusy, balanced by malts. Taste is well-balanced, too. If it’s the same hop bill that Boulevard started with, before the hop-head craze, it shows. Clean and inviting, more German crispness, with a bit of floral note, against a mildly sweet but chewy caramel base. Maybe a bit strong to be a session beer, but you could still have two or three at one sitting.

Poured light amber. Aroma - Faint hops. Crisp with notes of light grassy hops and caramel. A touch of malt. Still pretty thin for my taste.

Tap at Seamus McDaniel’s in Dogtown, St. Louis, MO. Light amber color with a creamy off-white head. Light bitter aroma over mild roasted malt. Medium body with mild carbonation. Spicy/grassy hop over slight roasted tones. Fresh and clean. A lighter pale ale, but a tasty one.

Another one smuggled back from Nasville. Pours a cloudy orange. Subtle fruity hop flavors with a bit of a caramel back bone. Crisp and fruity, citrus aroma. Pretty smooth but a little boring and flat seeming.

12 oz bottle from Kaggie97! Thanks Kevin! BB 12/29/08. Nose is a light fruity, golden raisin note with some floral hoppiness; hazy yellow-orange with a medium yellow tinged head; flavor is light hop bitterness, fruity sweetness, and light peppery spiciness; different pale ale flavors.

Small but close foam. Classic amber with lots of bubbles. Fresh, grainy aroma and taste. A bit of corn, but mostly barley. Plate is full and fizzy, but a bit of an off aftertaste. A good ale, well worth summer drinking.
