Purchased in an annoyingly frat-happy bar in Iowa City, meaning that it was served by an obnoxiously perky waitress who brought it in a glass so cold there were ice chunks floating in the glass. Yes, itís December in Iowa and I was just begging for a beersicle. Thanks, Mitzi. Anyways, itís pretty much your standard pale ale fare. Once it warmed, I noticed some definitely lemony hints in the Cascades. Definite malts, help sweeten out the finish. Light colored, clear bright golden color. Pretty much just a standard, run-of-the-mill pale ale, nothing fancy, nothing bad.

Flashes of hop brilliance in this cascades-based APA. Not at all unlike Sierra Nevada, with a bit less bitterness and hop flavor rush. Nicely balanced and sometimes elegant. Could use a little more punch.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAR 3, 2003 Good bitter hops taste. Beautiful copper color in the glass. Just the right amount of head. Doesn't have a specific character, but overall a good beer if you're having more than one. Wish it was a little heavier.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2010 Rating for draught version. Some sweet, very lightly honeyish and caramel malt aroma with some faint hoppiness. Bright golden in color with a decent head and abundant carbonation. Flavor is also largely malty, some faint toasted bread and sweetness and eventually sees a bit of Cascade hoppiness. Finish is lightly citrusy, hoppy and effervescent. Light to medium bodied and fairly thin on the palate. This beer is so ubiquitous in these parts as to be largely synonymous with American Pale Ale as a style. Thatís not entirely a bad thing.

Extremely drinkable at all seasons of the year. Best on tap and not ice-cold. Some would debate the addition of a lemon to the brew, I say adding a slice makes me feel more like a woman.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: OCT 12, 2006 Draught: This one pours a somewhat darker golden color. Definitely lighter than expected. There is some white head and a bit of lacing. The aroma is a bit on the lighter side also. Some grapefruit hops to the nose. The taste is some grapefruit hops also. A touch bitter, with a somethat lighter body. A decent pale ale. Like their wheat, a little lighter than your standard Pale Ale.

I really enjoy this beer. Maybe its just that I am so relieved to get it at a local bar because the only other options are bud light and miller light. It has a smooth taste, not too bitter, not too sweet. Has a hint of citrus as well. I drink Boulevard about once a week and have always enjoyed every last drink.

Had this in a bar at U of Missouri and it was an easy drink, would get it again, but would not rave about it.
