2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 mdi (573) - USA - JAN 2, 2006
12oz bottle BB 05/05/06...Pours a slightly(everso) hazy copper color w/ a nice frothy white head...lotsa racing bubbles in the tumbler...Head retention is excellant, leaving a thick lace where it has slightly fallen over the course of 5min or so. This is what I’d call nearly perfect appearance. From there, I go to a faint & faltering nose. Just not there...where is the aroma?? I can’t smell my beer! Trying to delve into the shallow scents I can note some light malt prescence, a bit of phenol resembling plastic or cellophane, and a small brushing of resiny hops. Really, I am stretching to create those things...I’ve been smelling it now off and on for almost 10 min and the only thing I can call a dominate aroma is the bit of plastic...which is probably the hops or yeast...but it doesn’t please me. It is amazing for its near complete lack of aroma. Then I taste it and I see why it doesn’t have much aroma...it doesn’t have much flavor either! Bland. Tastes more like a filtered lager beer than a bottle-conditioned pale ale. Slightly malty...a bit of metal pricks my tongue (all those rushing bubbles)...then a subliminal blend of citric and resin hops to round out the bitter finish. It does have some bitterness, this is at least something...and that plastic tinge comes back too...Very distracting. The head is still solid though, halfway through the glass...impressive. But the watery body isn’t. Every time I drink this beer, I hold onto this hope that I’ll find some redeeming quality in it and I’ll be able to happily drink it from then on...it does look great in the glass, but that isn’t helping my taste buds...the slight hop presence in the finish isn’t enough to redeem this beer from tedium.

Poured into my ccb pint glass. Golden brown in color with decent carbonation but only a papertgin head to show for it Aroma is very light, hard to detect much in the nose but I do smell bready yeast and feint citric from the hops. Taste follows the nose, good balance between malt and hops. Just an average beer, nothing special here.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Fatehunter (139) - - APR 27, 2012
Poured into a glass stein. Light copper color with a tight two fingers of head. Looks really nice.
Honey smelling, slight hop aroma. Really had to search for this too.
A bit of malt, a little more bitter at the end. Just a simple one, two profile.
Light body and light carbonation.
An average beer. Nice and easy to drink, but not interesting or different.

Pours a golden orange color with a small egg shell head. Aroma of sweet caramel and citrus. Taste is fruity hops with caramel and a slightly dry and bitter finish.

Pours a cloudy (yeast?) deep orange with a popping white head as a capper. This fizzes down quickly, but leaves enough of a sheet to leave some pretty sticky lacing all along the glass. Smells a tad like vegetables, finishing slightly sweet like sugar cookies.
Mouthfeel is firm. Easily drinkable. Flavor profile is a tad sour and yeasty at the onset, but gives way to a mellow sweetness that I really like. Nice malt presence sneaks in, with just a hint of hoppy bitterness. Well done. Recommend.

Very faint aroma, not much there at all. Pours a clear golden amber, with a full white head. This comes across as a session beer, with just touches of citrus notes and bittering. There’s very little going on, and nothing in it comes across as bad, just mediocre. It’s a drinkable beer, and easy to drink on a hot day, I’d rather reach for a pale ale with more of a backbone though.

Pours amber orange with white head. Smell of soapy orange hops. The taste is smooth mellow and great for an American English style pa. Mild grain with mild hop bitter and light fruit that hides under the bitter herbal flower hops. A solid go to being local in KC. This made me appreciate pale ales.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2012 Boulevard’s Pale Ale may not rank as high as some other ales in terms of IBUs (31, less than the 47 of their strong porter), but don’t let that keep you away from trying out this beer even if you’re a hop-head. There are pine-like, grassy, citrus qualities of this amber-colored beer, and it has both a powerful initial taste as well as aftertaste. The smell is fairly mild, nothing memorable or offensive. I’d describe it as medium-bodied. The only real drawback is that the head overflows a bit too easily. Brewed with two row barley malt, pure water, whole hops and yeast. The malts have a caramel characteristic.

Not too shabby for a bar with poor beer selection. Not too shabby at all. Would definitely drink this again.
