3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 csbosox (1191) - Prairie Village, Kansas, USA - JAN 26, 2009
UPDATED: JUN 13, 2010 On tap at the LBG brewfest in last September. Brilliant gold color. Lots of herbal and earthy hops in the aroma along with a biscuty background. Maybe a touch too grassy. A bit of biscut & malt sweetness along with a strong hop presence, all earthy and herbal. This was the newer (and better) test batch.
Bottled commercial version
The bottled version is a little more mainstream than the test batch I rated. Although I really wanted a prima pils, stoudt pils or even a lagunita’s pils, Boulevard went in another direction. Although I was somewhat dissapointed at first, I do like the price point, widespread availibility and 12 pack option. This is moderately more expensive than a 12 pack of BMC bottles and much better. This is pretty much to style for a CAP, although this version swung the balance a little more to the malt at the expense of the hops. All malt grain bill with some munich malt giving a nice, but subtle, maltiness. The hops are fairly light in the aroma and subtle in the flavor, but are floral and delicate. This is a very enjoyable beer for sipping on the patio on a hot day. I tend to vote with my wallet, and I would have to guess I have purchased 2-3 cases of this beer so far. Don’t expect to be overwelhmed by this beer, but do stop to appreciate it’s subtle flavors on the first bottle and easy drinkability on the following few.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Soonah (1120) - Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - APR 12, 2010
Poured clear and pale gold with a white head and average lacing. The aroma was grassy with a touch of citrus. The flavor was grassy and sweet with a bit of a metallic twang towards the end. Thin body. Not their best effort.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 eboats (1067) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUN 1, 2010
Poured bronze/honey colored with a white head. Aroma was malty grain. Flavor was that of a generic pilsner with nothing standing out. Smooth body.

12oz bottle from suzygreenberg. Light clear yellow with little head. Grassy boring nose...body is kind of flat and meh...watery and not much going on. Not horrible but nothing impressive. Supermarket beer.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 RobertDale (970) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - SEP 7, 2010
12 ounce bottle. Pours a pale gold with an average white head. Aroma of grain and malt. Tastes clean, crisp, sweet with just a touch of hops. Good effort Boulevard!
3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 wxman (959) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - JAN 15, 2010
Pours a rich clear golden color with an impressive white pils head. Almost no aroma, perhaps a little wet bread. Clean crisp American pilsner taste. Not real flavorful, but well balanced. Sweet pale malt and maple syrup are present along with a slight hop bitterness that is still more assertive than most American macros. Very pleasant and refreshing, not corny. Remember, ratings should always be against others of the same style, not based on what your favorites are. With that, I must rate this fairly high.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 mreusch (851) - Olathe, Kansas, USA - JUN 23, 2009
12oz. sweet looking retro bottle. Pours a clear bright golden with a moderate white head that lingers. Aroma is classic pilsner with toasted malts, biscuit, and light grassy hops. Flavor is also light, with more biscuit and toasted malts and just a hint of citrus and grassy hops. A great hot weather beer and a nice addition to the Boulevard lineup.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 seymour (782) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 7, 2011
Tasted from bottle into nucleated pub glass. Pours a bright, light-golden color with full white head, no lace. Neutral aroma, but faint grains, biscuits, noble hops, and apricot. Surprisingly rich malt-sweetness and hops bitterness. 100% barley malt, so it lacks the corn/rice/adjunct sugar off-tastes of nearly every other American lager. Heavier body and fuller mouthfeel than you’d expect from such a light beer. Sparkling carbonation. Crisp, clean lager finish with delicate aftertaste. Probably my favorite Classic American Pilsner.
