COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The French-speaking region of southern Belgium is the birthplace of saison, the love child of a centuries-old tradition of small rural "farmhouse" breweries, where native yeasts and time-honored recipes combined to produce some of the world’s most distinctive beers. As a tribute to this artisanal institution, we offer our own brisk, unruly Saison. Truly an artful balancing act, it is both rustic and subtle, robust yet effervescent, spicy and fruity.

Pours slightly hazy yellow/gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is mild lemon, corn is slightly noticeable. Taste is subtle honey, berry, and light hop. Nothing wrong but nothing too miraculous either.

Cloudy yellow pour. Light white head. Lots of wheat and citrus, especially lemon notes. Slightly sour. Well balanced but a touch weak. Hops are there and add to a nice complexity. Good saison.

Sampled at the ’Butter’s Last Supper’ tasting. Pours a hazy straw with good white head. Nose is light clean sweet citrus with just a hint of funk. Flavor is very sweet, with lemon zest and a bit of tartness. Clean, crisp, and refreshing. Everything I want from a saison.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2009 Pours a lasting ring of off-white head with a slightly hazy, straw color body. Grass, zest, grapefruit, radish, yest aroma. Yeast, grass, zest flavor. Some sharpness yet smooth.

750ml bottle. Pours a large, clingy, rocky white head. Fairly clear, slightly hazy golden body. Aroma is spicy - coriander, pepper, vanilla and citrus. Wheat malt in the flavor, same spices as in aroma. Tart. Yum. Light body, slightly sticky, but fairly clean. Light, warming alcohol. Pleasant. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Clean, crisp, refreshing, spicy...tasty.

Sweet painting on the label, a 750, corked and caged. Heavy yeast suspension in a yellow-golden body, with a lacing meringue white head. Pale malts in nose with faint ’rustic’ pepper. A little indistinct. Very sweet taste, lemon, lime, and Gala apples. Vanilla, pepper, faint earthy spice of indeterminate origin. Creamy and smooth, alcohol warms but is not to be detected otherwise. Delish, a good meld of flavors.

750ml corked and caged bottle, batch S8317. I have had this beer before and will have it again, but figured it was time to rate it...this is for you Tim. Pours a slightly hazy pale golden yellow with a huge fluffy head into my Boulevard Tank 7 tulip glass...courtesy of Tim. As it settles a bit, it never goes completely away and looks like fluffy cloud. Leaves behind big fluffy white remnants of the head on the side of the glass as I drink it down. Nose is just great...wheaty dough, some hay, some lemon tartness, clove, slight sweet banana and pink peppercorn. All aromas are playing at the same level to give just a great balance. Right away I am greeted with great carbonation with mild hop bittering in the middle that moves into a slightly sweat wheatiness that quickly picks up the peppercorn and then finishes off back into some bittering while holding onto the slight banana wheatiness. All flavors are again playing well together and the end result is a super refreshing and enjoyable saison. I have had this beer 4 times now and will certainly buy more bottles. Great American made saison.

I sure like the 750 ml smokestack series they have come out with. This one is another good one. Hazy light golden pour with a white head. Aroma of light citrus, yeast, spices. Taste is refreshing. Spices, malt, a little citrusy, followed up by a dry finish with some spice to it.
