COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The French-speaking region of southern Belgium is the birthplace of saison, the love child of a centuries-old tradition of small rural "farmhouse" breweries, where native yeasts and time-honored recipes combined to produce some of the world’s most distinctive beers. As a tribute to this artisanal institution, we offer our own brisk, unruly Saison. Truly an artful balancing act, it is both rustic and subtle, robust yet effervescent, spicy and fruity.

Pours a golden color with a big white lacy head. Nose is citrus, earth, must, apple, and honey. Taste is about the same with additional honey corn apple notes. Decent mouthfeel dry finish with moderate carbonation. Run of the mill.

750ml bottle $8.49 at my local. Nice yellow-gold-orange hue, smells rustic, minerals, metallic, and then soapy. The flavor is smooth, hops, perfume, very nice. This was very easy to drink and not quite spicy but still a decent interpretation of a saison. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-11-2009 03:53:04

Bottle from MaltOMeal. Pours a clear bright yellow with a big white head. Sharp lemon citrus flavors. Dirty, earthy, wild yeast sort of aroma. Finish is a slightly fruity bitterness with a full bodied maltiness. Again who wants to send me the one Brett version?

750 ml. bottle. Pours a thick head of good duration, with some lacing, over a light golden (SRM7) slightly cloudy body....nose of light lemony citrus, some clove, coriander, banana....tastes is mild malts with some sour citrus, witha bit of clove, with a pineapple and almost grapefruit mildly bitter finish....mouth feel is medium with finely bubbled carbonation. This meets the style quite well.

Pours very yellow with a good cloudiness to it and a very strong, thick, frothy, white head. that lasts throughout the tasting. Aroma is first of pineapple with notes of wheat, yeast, light clove and some banana and lemon hiding in the background. Flavor has a defined sourness and wheat flavor up front followed by a lemon citrus bite which fades leaving a smooth semi-sweet banana and clove notes. Beer has a very fine carbonation and a moderate heaviness to it. Overall this is a great example of a saison and one I wish I could find again.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain/bread/cracker), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of pepper, lemon zest, gum, dried pineapple, wintergreen. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Wow...sooooo much better from bottle than draught (or maybe they’ve just gotten better in the few years it’s been since I’ve had a draught sample). This is patterned after Dupont Saison for sure (which is a good thing), but is still its own animal. Wonderful balance, great yeast/malt/hop character, fluffy mouthfeel...you really can’t ask for much more in a saison. Big thumbs up, as with the bottled Tripel.

Batch 98053. Pours a nice thick foamy head with lots of little bubbles. Yellowish pour, with a ice amount of haze and an orange hue. Smells of coriander and clove, a little bit of bread and some citrus. Smooth taste, with a faint alcohol bite on the end. Tastes like wheat, banana, fruits. Beer was enjoyed on the back porch on a sunny day, perfect weather for a good saison.

750 ml, thanks to General Gao. Lightly hazy topaz with a lasting disc of cream. Spicy citrus and resin aroma has some faint mustiness. Flavor is resin and sweet-n-tart apple-lemon, with some light wheat and oak. Medium body is watery, a bit too explosive with fizziness in the mouth, but nicely dried on the finish.
