COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The French-speaking region of southern Belgium is the birthplace of saison, the love child of a centuries-old tradition of small rural "farmhouse" breweries, where native yeasts and time-honored recipes combined to produce some of the world’s most distinctive beers. As a tribute to this artisanal institution, we offer our own brisk, unruly Saison. Truly an artful balancing act, it is both rustic and subtle, robust yet effervescent, spicy and fruity.

An awesome saison. Nice crisp drinkability to it but doesn’t sacrifice flavor. Can’t even notice the alcohol content. Will definitely purchase this in the near future.

The aroma is very fruit foward banana orange peel. The appearance is a bright golden color that ia over the top cloudy-but in a good way! There is a small amount of pepper with a fruit/ citrus closing.

Poured from a 750 ml corked bottle; citrus, floral, earthy aroma, cloudy, golden color, white foam with good lacing, lightly sour, lightly bitter, thin feel, medium body, soft carbonation, long finish, I’m not familiar with saisons but this was a nice drinkable beer. I like this whole Smokestack series of brews from Boulevard.

750 ml bottle. Pours with a very tall pale white head that clings to the sides of the glass. Golden straw color with a slight haze from yeast in the bottle. Not as dry as I would like in a saison but with a light spicy character that finishes quite nice. Hop bitterness is light with little in the aroma. Spicy tones with some oxidation in the aroma. The oxidation does not come though so much in the flavor. Over all a very nice beer to enjoy with a freind.

Aroma is slightly floral and hay. Pours golden with a pretty frothy head. Very effervescent. Flavor has a bit of barnyard, grassy floral, and little bit of light fruit and spice. Slight funk on the finish. Enjoyed this.

From a bottle. Pours a light gold color with a large, frothy head. Aroma of honey, citrus, and pine. Thinner texture. A crisp, light flavor with some slightly sweeter bitterness in the finish. Pleasant and dry.

A bit too fruity for me. Maybe with a good paring this would be amazing, but not a good "all around, everyday" beer. This is a specific beer with a specific niche’

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2009 Bottle conditioned saison - Smokstack Series. Pours hazy golden straw, good head, hangs around for a few minutes. Citrus aroma (primarily grapefruit and lemon), not particularly complex. Doesn’t have a lot of the sweet / tart barnyard aroma you’d find in, say, a Dupont. Flavor is similar to aroma. Nice dry finish. This is a standard saison, it seems to me. Lacks tartness and pepperiness and overall complexity. EDIT: forgot I’d rated this before and did it again, liking it better the second time: Hazy orange with nice rocky head that sticks around for a loooong time. Odor of lemon and orange and pepper, slight earthiness. Very pleasant aroma. Dry and quite carbonated, flavor is bitter orange, lemon and orange rinds, very spicy (there might be spice added – tough to be sure), slightly tart, with a bit of an astringent finish. The flavor that lingers is citrus rinds and dryness. I think it’s great. I guess I wish the finish was a little smoother as this is a beer I want to drink a lot of.
