boboski (1095), USA Jan 2, 2008 A frothy and creamy pure-white head is monstrous, even with a slow pour, diminishing slowly and lacing heavily. The body is lightly hazy, a pale gold with yellow glimmer and sparse evident carbonation flow. The aroma is practically all yeast, with mild esters seeping through. Navel orange and light pineapple traces flutter through the foam to reach my waiting nose. Fresh and lightly toasty grains mingle with abundant earthy hops and grassiness. Floral tones and perfumes comprise the remainder. There is a hint of Belgian influence, mostly of farmhouse snippets and the lightest infiltration of mustiness. The flavor is mildly bitter and freshly hoppy, veering far from expectations but remaining pleasant and lively. Mild grapefruit notes and sparkling fresh acidity add to the fresh feel of the taste. Bready malts are medium and refined. Yeast is still the centerpiece, citric and not too complex. Lemon leads into a peppery finish that slowly and signifigantly dries the palate. The mouthfeel is softly but very fully carbonated, light-medium to medium bodied, smooth and crisp, lean. This base beer(as it has been used) would indeed be an awesome candidate for the introduction of a hearty dose of Brettanomyces. I can’t wait to try the Bretted version of this.
amishcaravan (225), Winona, Minnesota, USA Nov 29, 2008 strong nose of lemon or orange peels. this is a great beer. very smooth with fruit tones in the finish. if not for the price I would probably purchase again. IlanMan (632), Winona, Minnesota, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle: Hazy light golden pour with a foamy white head. Aroma of a lot of floral yeast, sweet light malt, a hint of honey, and a bit of orange zest. Flavor is lightly sweet with a lightly spicey yeast, light hints of honey. Finishes with some wheat and a hint of bitterness. Very well blended brew. durhambeer (619), Durham, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bottle thanks to Eugene. Fairly typical American-made saison, but a very good one. Bright deep golden pour with big fluffy white head. Citrus and mild spice. Nice yeasty taste. Some wheatiness and citrus zest. Very drinkable. Not quite as crisp/dry as I would have liked. Great palate. A very solid brew. I could drink this all summer. thejoeshow (167), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 27, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a very pale/straw yellow color with a very effervescent and frothy white head that has decent retention and lacing. Aroma is light and citrusy, not a hop citrus, more of a lemon zest citrus. There is also a nice wheat character in the nose as well. Flavor is very nice, easy and light. There are hints of wheat and lemon zest, not too far off from a wit. It is very easy on the palate and very sessionable. It has a drawn out finish that leaves a nice taste in the back of your mouth. This is a beer that you could drink the entire 750 no problem. JMerritt (1120), Macomb, Illinois, USA Nov 26, 2008 Fairly clear, golden in color with a large, frothy bright-white head. The head is think and long-lasting, leaving sticky, egg-white lacing. Mild floral aroma - honey, sweet straw, biscuits, a bit of dried fruit and alcohol. Malty, mildly bitter, mildly sour flavor, a decent amount of chewy wheat and clover flowers. Bitter finish. Fantastic carbonation level, perfect for style.
