COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The French-speaking region of southern Belgium is the birthplace of saison, the love child of a centuries-old tradition of small rural "farmhouse" breweries, where native yeasts and time-honored recipes combined to produce some of the world’s most distinctive beers. As a tribute to this artisanal institution, we offer our own brisk, unruly Saison. Truly an artful balancing act, it is both rustic and subtle, robust yet effervescent, spicy and fruity.

Sampled at 4th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Beer poured a hazy, light gold with a small, frothy, white, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma was malty with moderate notes of lightly husky, toasted grain; hoppy with light notes of herbs and lemon zest; miscellaneous notes of moderate fresh bana, light coriander, wood and trace DMS. The flavor was lightly sweet, moderately bitter with a long, moderate-to-heavily bitter finish with a slightly husky finish. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation was lively with a lightly alcoholic finish.

bottle thanks to swalden_28. pours a hazy straw yellow with a fizzy white head with good retention. aroma has strong citrus notes/lemon. flavor is bitter with high carbonation. a dry finish. medium body. a little to bitter for my taste but i am working on that. my brother broke this one out at the end of the night of our cook out. not a bad one. thanks bro!

Not my kind of saison. I was surprised, really. I broke out a big bottle of this for a picnic with a neighbor. I was going to give him something different to try (I don’t think he buys much non-mainstream beer) but the flavor profile was so routine. The hops are pronounced and they give it a dry tackiness, and there’s a strong yeast dimension, but the fruitiness was subdued, there was no funkiness (I guess Fantome is too high of a standard to set), and much of the effect to be not far beyond a summer ale. Didn’t impress me.

Nice slightly hazy golden body with a nice white head. Aroma of fresh wheat, light hops, coriander seed and curacao with a hint of the yeast. Medium-bodied; Highly carbonated mouthful with a good dose of the malt and yeast up front fading to a strong alcoholic and metallic twang near the end. Aftertaste shows a bit of sweetness with mostly musty and earthy flavours and a touch of the hops comes through too. Overall, a very dry and interesting mouthful saison - definitely not one of my favourites, but obviously not a horrible beer. I sampled the 75 cL bottle purchased from Goebel Liquor in Wichita, Kansas on 26-March-2008.

This bottled brew from a beer festival poured a small sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a uncarbonated transparent yellow colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was citrus floral and malty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of floral and malt. An OK brew just nothing special.

Bottle. Pours a nice, cloudy yellow with an aroma of honey-glazed hay and grass. A coppery hops presence is immediately noticeable in the taste, followed by a sour herbal blend that seems a bit stale. Average mouthfeel. Not at all what Ilook for in a saison. Big disappointment from a great brewery.

Cloudy straw body with a small, off-white head. Aroma is slightly sweet with notes of dough, lemon, spice, and pear. Moderately sweet flavor with musky overtones.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2008 Bottle... SMAACMSM O-Town Throwdown, Part Sept... Cloudy, straw-colored ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Excellent retention. Spicy, yeasty essences of coriander, citrus fruit, white pepper and pale grains. Medium-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Spicy and fairly well-bittered. Lengthy, bitter/dry finish. Not at all my thing. Kudos to PhillyBeer2112 for bringing this one to share! The final chapter of the Smokestack series for me.
