COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Situated at opposite ends of the California Trail, pioneering breweries Sierra Nevada and Boulevard have embarked upon a journey into the unknown, to a land where adventures in brewing and flavor await. Terra Incognita is, fittingly, an earthy beer, celebrating the unique terroir of the two locations. Beginning with Sierra Nevada’s estate-grown pale malt, and combined with amber malt, wheat, and malted wheat, it is then assertively hopped with Bravo and Styrian Goldings, dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings, and finally barrel aged with Brettanomyces in Missouri oak.
Originally brewed for and released exclusively at SAVOR Fest 2012. Re-released to the general public on 6-18-13.

750 c&c from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a 5 finger foamy/frothy tan head. Aroma (through lots of head) is sour and dark. Med + body. Flavor is dark malt, wood and some seriously sour fruit. This is not vinegar sour. It’s dark fruit bretty. No cherry here. Apparently no fruit of any kind here, but I guess it’s the Goldings. When the foam is gone the aroma is quite earthy/sour, and the flavor generates a hint of chocolate - but it finishes earthy/sour. Mouth fatigue means not so sour as the start, but sour. This is a rather elegant ale, and if popular wines were earthy, this would be a fitting alternative. Ain’t the way of the world. tho.

Impressive. A mix of fruit esters, sour, spice and liquor aromas. Rich colors of amber and brandy. Smooth and somewhat dry palate with a full mouthfeel. Flavors were concentrated and mixed. Oak, spice, subtle sour fruits and just a hint of bourbon. Very complex.

Appearance: Black color with a creamy beige head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Mild roasted malt, coffee and some chocolate.
Palate: Medium body. Balanced mild sweet and an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation. Creamy texture.
Taste: Mild chocolate, some coffee, yeast, mild oak and roasty.
Overall impression: A really pleasant, tasty and fresh wild stout. I only feel that the body could have been a bit better. Felt a bit thin.
Personal stats: Bottle from a trade with Inbreak.

Pours close to black with a large fluffy, tan head. Slighly sour on the nose with hints of red berries and light roasty notes. Taste is moderate roasty with fruity notes and a dry and bitter finish. Some alcohol warmth. Medium-full body with high levels of co2.

Mørk brun, med tykt skumlag. Frisk syrlig lukt av gjær, eddik, stenfrukt. Litt tam smak i forhold til aromaen. God syrlig ettersmak.

Bottle at home. Has a cloudy, deep brown to black colour with a huge, beige and creamy head. Aroma of oak, dried fruit, berries, forest floor, barnyard and some hops. The flavour is similar with more oak, dried fruit and some alcohol and hops. A little dry in the end. Silky and slick mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A sour ale with an American hoppy touch in the background.
