COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Situated at opposite ends of the California Trail, pioneering breweries Sierra Nevada and Boulevard have embarked upon a journey into the unknown, to a land where adventures in brewing and flavor await. Terra Incognita is, fittingly, an earthy beer, celebrating the unique terroir of the two locations. Beginning with Sierra Nevada’s estate-grown pale malt, and combined with amber malt, wheat, and malted wheat, it is then assertively hopped with Bravo and Styrian Goldings, dry-hopped with East Kent Goldings, and finally barrel aged with Brettanomyces in Missouri oak.
Originally brewed at Boulevard and released exclusively on draft at SAVOR Fest 2012. Batch 2 was brewed at Boulevard and re-released to the general public in bottles on 6-18-13.

Poured from the bottle. Pours deal rich ruby red/brown in color. Softy carbonation with plenty of head. Taste is very earthy and well balanced. One of of the best wild ales I have had in a very long time

THOUGHTS: A wonderful beer. I aged it for almost a year after getting it as SAVOR. The first few swallows produced an odd saltiness in the center of my tongue. Rather funky toward the front of the tongue but then it dried out and sort of stripped off the layers of flavor to prepare you for the next sip. One of the strangest things I’ve ever tasted. Brett nose kept getting more and more complex. His alcohol perhaps better than any other beer I’ve tried. TECHNICAL: Drank 5/18/2013. Bottle. Poured a fairly clear, dark, brownish red with and average, beige, head that kept a thin sheet and left good lacing. The aroma had light to moderate caramel malt; light toasted malt; light and stale herbal and spicy hops; moderate to heavy barnyard, leather, cheese, earthy and funky yeast; lighter dried saliva yeast; sour cherry; red wine; light sour citrus; wood; sour fruit; slight pepper. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, moderately acidic and slightly sour; while the finish was lightly sweet, moderate to heavily sour slightly bitter, lightly acetic, and slightly salty but only in the center of the tongue. There was caramel, toasted malt, sour fruit, sour citrus, earthy yeast, leather, funky yeast, cheesy yeast, sour cherry, hints of herbal hops, wood and so much more. red wine, hints of chocolate, and salted caramel in the center of the tongue. The medium body was extremely easy to drink for the style and ABV. It was creamy and then very dry wirh pinprick fizzy carbonation and a dry finish.

Dark burnt umber with a thin lacy sticky head. Raisins and sweet caramel nose. Thick, caramel and light roasted coffee taste. Medium carbonated. Nice but not overly inspiring.

Damn good beer, interesting too. appearance has a tan long-lasting head with some lace and a very dark cloudy brown color. Aroma is caramel malt bourbon and spice. Flavor is not so much like aroma it's dryer more complex, has Cocoa, Bourbon comes out along with a bit of carbonic Tang. The more I drink the more nuances I notice. Great body. Boozy finish but it works here, great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle share. Slightly hazy dark amber, brown cap. Aroma of grape skin, spices, wood, roasty malt, candied sugar, plum. Taste is quite sweet, with a slight tang. Coats the mouth quite nicely, with a long drawn out medium dryness.

750ml bottle from Whole Foods in Upper Arlington ($14.99). Dark brown pour with a big frothy tan head. Aroma of yeast, dark fruit, grape, bready, earthy. Tastes are red fruit, little smoke, light spice, woody, caramel, raisins, little funk. Slick thin to medium palate and the booze comes through a bit late. Interesting sipper. Would probably love it if it were properly sour.

Bottle said "Best by 2-15". Drank 9-14. Been cellared about 15 months. Dark murky pour with thick off-white head. Smells like concord grape jam, oak, whiskey barrel, and manure. Rich malty taste with dark fruits prevalent and a hint of chocolate. A very pleasant sourness cleans up the malt and leave the palate fresh with lingering noble hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is lively and refreshing. Finish is long and complex. A nice beer. Complex as you might expect, but not unbalanced.

(Bottle). Strange smell of manure and sour yeast. Quite unpleasant scent but in the background is something nice lurking and the taste is a very pleasant surprise! Crisp taste of hops, yeast, citrus and spices. Unusual and complex beer.

"Dark berry fruitiness, oak, whiskey, funk all in equal measure. This rather dark ale is both mellow and incredibly complex at the same time. lively carbonation. Another that exceeded expectations. Love the whiskey/sour combo with a malty fruitiness that just brings it all together. Could have easily drank the entire 750 myself (though I did not)."
