4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 beastiefan2k (1920) - Lawrence (formely NYC), USA - MAR 8, 2009
UPDATED: NOV 14, 2009 This beer pours beautifully with a thick amber color that only allows for a soft clarity. There is a visible carbonation, wherein the rushing bubbles reach a pillow-y, thick, voluminous and voluptuous (can I say that about beer foam), everlasting head. The head never subsides, just sits there with a half inch thick foam, almost makes me want to stick my head inside the glass for a good nights sleep. The combination of the head, thickness of the color, and the visible carbonation, make this a 5 for appearance. The smell of the beer is an amalgamation of numerous different hop aspects, not centered on any one quality. I pick up bits of citrus, some light dry grapefruit skin, its a little bit resiny, slightly oily, and just lightly sweet fruit or tropical fruit hops to it. Those fruit hops mingle with a light residual sweetness, very light. The aroma is not covered up by any of the malt sugars, that’s why the grapefruit skin can come through, but there is just a little bit of it to mingle with the hops. I like it, a medley where the grapefruit is the victor but by only a small margin, fits my bill. The taste losses out a bit, I mean its hard to compete. While the looks are frivolous (at least when it comes to whether one will drink a beer again), the aroma is something that ups the ante for what one expects from the beer. So the flavor ends up being a bit disappointing, when compared to the previously mentioned elements. The hops are not as bright and crisp as they are in the nose, that medley is gone. It just becomes a mash of lightly sweet white biscuit maltiness with a general American hoppiness. Still there is a brash bitterness cutting through the malts but again, the interplay is nowhere as complex as the nose led one to believe. The texture to the beer is almost dough-lke liquid that gets cut by the brash bitterness, cool and weird at the same time. I like the beer, and if I am ever in the mood for another 6pack of IPA, locally this is best for me. But again, the flavor can be tweaked with to allow the hops to shine a little more. Fresh 12oz bottle in a Bells tulip glass.8/5/7/3/15.
Had a fresh bottle and it was still a spectacular beer. Had a lot more of a fruity hoppy character, less resiny, no malts getting in the way. Less bitterness to it as well, a more rounded, sweet hop centered brew. It was a blast to drink, and still a beautiful looking beer. bumping up the rating on this one.

Hops are good... Hops that make beer taste like Pine Sol... not so good. Ok, I’m overstating it a bit... This beer isn’t terrible, but pine is not my thing.

Poured into my ccb pint glass. Golden color with moderate carbonation, a paper thin head and a little lacing. Aroma of mild hops and malts to balance out. Taste is solid, good hop and malt balance, more citrus than pine. The beat part of this beer is how drinkable it is. Smooth and not overpowering, great beer after yard work or anytime you want one!

Draft. Rich O's. Golden, wispy head. Hop aroma is muted, but somewhat grassy. Firm malt backbone, bitter, citrus, lemon and grapefruit.

Pours a hazy gold with a fluffy, buoyant, voluminous creamy head that leaves some sticky lace behind. Nose is floral, citrusy fruit, and piney hops with some soft caramel. Taste is mostly bitter, with a light growing sweetness. A lot of flavor packed in there, really bursts. Palate is vibrant, powerful, medium to full bodied, refreshing with a lengthy finish. This is a well crafted IPA. Will seek again, nicely done.

Bottle from Hilton st. Louis. Pouts orange with a thin white head. Big grass notes on the nose. The grass continues on the nose with a citrus vibe. Finish clean. One of the better IPA’s not from California.

Pours a deep gold with a massive white, foamy head on top, that retained as good as any I’ve seen. A nice inch-width head throughout the entire drink. Some nice sticky globs on the side. Rings absent.
Smelled of nice piney hops. Some spiciness was also noted. Mouthfeel was crisp yet slightly wet. Drinkability was decent. Flavor was a decent balance of bisuity malts and a nice hoppy bitter bite. I was a little underwhelmed though. Nothing that spectacular, but decent. No citrus player noted. Finished a tad spicy. Not a bad beer. Glad I got to try it.

I love Boulevard’s style. Transparent copper with a thick white head. Hoppy, but I find it beautifully balanced with plenty of malt. Some pineapple and tropical fruit pokes through. Long finish.

Bottle. Caramel malt and pineapple/grapefruit hops aroma. Hazy golden with a moderate white head. Citrus, grapefruit, grassy hops and light wheat malt flavor. Light to medium body and carbonation. Solid, but I’d like it even better if it were a little more malt forward.

I came across this last summer. Its a good camp fire brew or a good fresh cut grass beer.

Nice looking, tan and slightly cloudy with a nice fluffy white head. Smells quite hoppy, with plenty of pine and citrus. Taste follows the smell, a dry finishing hoppy and pine/citrus flavor, light malts.
