Draft at the STL Hops 3rd Anniversary Party, held upstairs at the Schlafly Tap Room. Pours a cloudy pale yellow-gold color with a finger-thick bone white head. Aroma of Tank 7 yeast hits first, followed by notes of floral and herbal hops, lemon citrus, sweet pale malts, and pineapple. Flavor of pine resin, lemon citrus, Tank 7 yeast, doughy malts, and a little peppery spice. Light-medium bodied, with fairly low carbonation and a bready mouthfeel. Nice balance between the Sorachi and saison character.

Draft at the brewery. Pour is hazed copper orange with an off white head. Aroma is big fresh leafy hops, along with the Belgian spice yeastiness. Really full, fresh and complex nose. Taste is the hops up front, big leafy, resin and mild citrus fruit, the toasty malt is in the back seat but present, and the finish is all Belgian yeast goodness. Very crisp and dry. Palate is medium to thin, resinous, perfect carbonation level, and that beautiful dry crispness. I love Single Wide, but, dare I say this is an improvement - really delicious.

grownfool’s Impromptu Tasting. Sample from a growler thanks to grownfool. Hazy orange, off white cover. Lemony hop aroma, some zesty spicing. Taste is bubblegum, mint, lemon, sweet candies.

From a growler (thanks, grownfool!) - Cloudy orange, and kind of flat, which works pretty well in this case. Orange aroma, mixed with some funk and some woody notes. Flavor is nicely dry, and nicely funky, with a lot of citrus notes. It’s an odd mix of flavors, but very tasty.

Tap: Houston Flying Saucer.. This was a great beer .. . the news is on .. . best of both worlds, from the light grains, light citrus hops, and a mellow sweetness.. the yeast gives this beer a beautiful uniqueness .. . a hit around the circle of people i was with .. . room for rent.

On tap at Flying Saucer Houston’s 10th Anniversary Party. Pours a hazy gold into the glass with a white head. Aroma is resin and citrus hops with a bit of belgian spice. Flavor is dominated by the belgian yeast character. The IPA bitterness is fairly lightened compared to the estery character. Really a nice beer. Had 2 of them!

On tap at flying saucers decade of draught. Pours a clear orange gold with a small frothy white head that diminshes quickly. The aroma is a light malt and yeast. Medium mouthfeel with a dry hop upfront with yeast and grapefruit and nice lingering dry finish. A good complex IPA from Boulevard.

Huge thanks to Boulevard for supplying a bit of this ’tasting room only’ beer to try in STL at TWCP. Pours pale hazy yellow with a white head. The aroma has lots of funky Tank 7 yeastiness and some fruit. There is a piny hoppiness along with some lemony traits and nectar fruits. Medium smooth body with subdued carbonation ~ especially considering the normal single wide. The taste has lightly toasty malt, pine, grapefruit, lemon zest and stone fruit - very dry. The finish is very piny and earthy. Nice crisp refreshing IPA. Very glad I was able to sample this rarity.
