Commercial Description:
"Do you know what dwells in a glass?" asks Ole, in Hans Christian Andersen's The Watchman of the Tower. Better known for stories such as The Little Mermaid, Andersen wrote this short, cautionary tale for a somewhat older audience. Our quadrupel ale, also meant for the mature connoisseur, is a deep and mysterious libation, dark auburn and full-bodied, its sweetness deceptive. As Ole describes the glasses in turn, their contents become more ominous until, in the sixth glass...

Pours a reddish brown with a thin white head. Aroma is dark fruit, toffee, some citrus. Flavor is malty sweet, a little boozy. Some hop bitterness. Decent quad.

Bottle and Batch No. 69198. Medium sized beige frothy, fizzy head that mostly diminished, semi-opaque body, one ring of lacing, no visible carbonation, and a reddish-amber hue. The aroma is malty, caramel, lightly yeasty, fruity, spicy, and alcohol. The flavor is malty, caramel, fruity, spicy, and the ABV comes through but in a very nice way. There is a warming sensation to the finish. The mouthfeel is tingly and this is a medium bodied beer. Overall, I enjoyed this beer very much because I liked the way the flavors came together. This is a nice beer for a cold winter evening, worthy of a try and a beer I would drink again and again and again!

Pours a cloudy medium brown with a khaki head. The aroma is dark fruit with some candi sugar, yeast and brown sugar. The aroma has something that reminds me of red wine. The flavor is brown sugar and dark fruits with some alcohol. The alcohol is a little boozy and also very warming. There is some light spicing in the flavor and once again something that reminds me of a dark, big bold red wine. Low carbonation and medium body. An excellent American quadrupel.

750 ml bottle. Pours a deep copper brown with a small off white creamy head. Aroma is very sweet, with a nice spiciness to it really floral fruity character with a nice citric hoppiness as 17thfloor noted to me. Really nice balance, lightly oxidized with just the right amount of booziness. Flavor is just a bit less balanced, a bit more oxidized. The sweet malt, some honey is much more on the fore front but there is definite spices carrying through. The fruits come out towards the finish with just a bit of booziness. Mediumish lightly sticky body and a soft carbonation. Nice quad, easy drinking, good complexity the bourbon version is really nice

750 thanks to funkybrewster, #1 in our American Quad tasting. Pours a near clear glowing reddish amber with a thinner foamy off-white head. Aroma has some nice oxidation notes, cherry, nutty, citrus, bit of alcohol, some spice, maybe cinnamon, spice cake-like, aged pretty well, smells like a fall beer. Flavor follows, very much like a fall seasonall, spicy and warm, medium rich, nutty, somewhat yeasty, warming alcohol, quite nutty, very nice, avoids being too sweet, touch of creamy chocolate. Medium bodied, clean, chalky, fluffy carbonation. Thanks Scott! Nice yeasty aftertaste, quite good, very drinkable. [after tasting the 3 other quads, this one is a clear winner]

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty and slightly spicy caramel aroma with some hints of dark fruit. Sweetish malty spicy yeasty caramel flavor with some hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish malty spicy caramel finish.

(bottle - corked & caged 750 ml) Deep copper color with a thick tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma is rather potent. Lots of fruit and malt with a touch of alcohol. Some light spice near the end. Flavor is very complex. Lots fruit and bready malts mix with a nice malt sweetness and some spice and alcohol near the end. Very rich and creamy but drinks well. Thanks to David for this one.
