keith0718 (151), Olathe, Kansas, USA Jan 7, 2008 I like big beers, so this rates high just for that fact; but it’s not my favorite. It’s a little too sweet for me, but I guess that’s the style.
mjg74 (1775), La Mesa, California, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle from Windy City. Deep amber in color. Looks well carbonated. Good sized beige head. Dark fruit aroma with a bit of yeast and spices. Some alcohol. Prickly mouthfeel. Spicy dark fruit flavors dominate. A little alcohol in the finish. BMan1113VR (794), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Sep 4, 2008 Batch 68081. Pours with a huge, creamy, off-white head that leaves good lacing and has great retention. Hazy deep amber body (too light in color for the style). Aroma of figs, brandy, cinnamon, black cherry and a slight sour note. Taste is very rich with strong brandy, light spices, and dark fruits everywhere. Mouthfeel is syrupy with light, natural bubbles. Not completely to style. jimbowood (720), Athens, Georgia, USA Aug 31, 2008 bottle. A very nice quad. Smooth, drinkable with a long finish. Similar to iron hill quad. Very nice. Big, fluffy head. Hophead22 (166), Redlands, California, USA Aug 31, 2008 750ml. bottle. Poured a real nice dark gold/copper color, nice light tan head. Sweet dark fruit aroma, raisens maybe, very bubbly as well. Very sweet flavor, good sweet though, very smooth and drinkable. Very nice beer. ketchepillar (252), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Aug 29, 2008 Appearance is wonderful. Lasting, smooth head. Aroma is slightly sour and bready, with some fruit (cherries). When you take a larger sniff the cherries come out more and the is very nice and complex. Small sniffs yield the sour bread. Mouthfeel is good. It’s one of those beers you want to swish around for a long time. Finish is a little harsh, but the alcohol is relatively well-hidden. Some nice tartness in the taste. Flavor definitely has pear coming through strong in the finish with some sweet sugary malts. Very good stuff. It gets better and better as you drink it.
