Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Dimmig mörk/djup orange med ett ljus brunt skum. Doft: Smör kola, bränt socker, övermogna körsbär, bourbon, vass trä doft, alkohol. Smak: Som doft i stort, fast bättre + vanilj. Dock lite för mycket bourbon i min smak.

C&C 750 mL bottle from Beer Run, 2013 vintage, opened 6/26/14. Pours a hazy brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of whiskey, wood, toffee, vanilla, wood, caramel, faint booze and apple. The taste is green apple, whiskey, wood, toffee, caramel, vanilla. Medium bodied, low carbonation and well hidden booze. The green apple is a little off-putting but overall a solid beer.

Bottle. Thanks to Andy for sharing. Pours a dark brown with a medium cream-colored head that leaves a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma of figs, caramel, and just a hint of bourbon. There is also faint alcohol. Flavor is moderately sweet, and there is an after-the-fact bitterness that shows up in the finish. I am reading in the description that this is loosely based on the "Sixth Glass" Quad, which I have had. I should also say that this will only be my third or fourth American Quad. Let me just say that Boulevard has come along way since the Sixth Glass. This is a far more refined beer. Very well done.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Cloudy copper colour, mid sized head. Caramel, cherry, vanilla and cognac up front. Mid sweet with medium-full body and gentle, well rounded mouthfeel. Mild and harmonious with caramel, oak, cherries and pears. Mild warming finish. Pleasant and complex.
