Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

Overwhelmed by the complexity and thorough enjoyability of this brew. Barrel aging adds all the right notes, lots of woody and smoky notes, yet still unbelievably silky smooth.. Near perfect quad....no wonder Duvel bought them out

Pours a ruby-brown into a snifter. Pale tan head fades into bubbles and a ring around the glass quickly. Aroma of dark, tart fruits and bourbon. Delicious smelling beer. Bourbon hits first, followed by a wave of dark fruits, and then a delicate tartness finishes out the flavor, I’m assuming from the cherries. Holy balls this beer is good. Good carbonation balances and the flavor lingers on the tongue for a good amount of time. This is a good one folks. Found it hiding in the corner of the cellar at my LBS, snatched it up immediately..very glad I did.

Bottle. Pours hazy copper with a large beige head that is a bit fizzy but still has lasting power and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is bourbon, toffee, raisin, date, spices, oak. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, spiced, bourbon, oaky and lots of dried fruits. Medium body, high carbonation, fizzy. Tasty.

@Basunen. Lite fruktighet men stor soft av lacknafta. Smaken är full av fat och enbart lite bär. Ganska torr och het. Nja får inte riktigt grepp. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

Bottle, caged and corked. Pours a little lightly for a "quad", but in the end this is a big beer and delivers like a monster. The aroma is over-the-top sweetness, candied sugar all the way. The beer sits with some good body ... red-orange, still, with a firm but thin top. The brew drinks with a sweet edge up front, almost cherry soda-like. Then there’s a little bourbon burn, but it’s all extremely well caged. And this goes down far too easily for an 11% beer. Delish. (#5521, 5/23/2014)

I got a lot more cherry from this than anything else, kinda reminiscent of Bell’s Cherry Stout, sweet with some nice bourbon/honeylike notes and a touch of vanilla. Not super drinkable but rather tasty.
