Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

2013 Vintage, poured from a large bottle. It’s a dark copper or amber color, with an medium cream color head. I smell vanilla, raisin and cherry, I taste all of same with caramel, with yeast and dark fruits. It’s wonderful!!! I should of bought 2 bottles:( Damn this is good!

Bourbon Barrel Quad tastes a lot more like a traditional quad than it does anything aged in bourbon barrels. The sweeter cherry notes are evident and the beer is overall very drinkable.

My Bottom Line:
Bourbon vanilla, green wood, alcohol heat, cherries, spicy phenolics, prickly effervescence,

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the cloudy red.
-Green pepper notes are found within as well (most likely from the barrel).
-Dried date notes (Deglet Noor, not Medjool) build in the back upon warming..
-I’m used to more finesse from Boulevard, so colour me a bit disappointed with this one.
-This one lacks dark malts (in my tastes) to truly link the barrel to the beer, imho.

Aroma of bourbon, caramel apple and vanilla. Pours a cloudy, murky rust. Little to no white head. Syrupy mouthfeel. Taste is bourbon, some alcohol, vanilla, tinge of oak. Descent, but not earth shattering.

Pours a dark brown with a billowy head; strong bourbon aromas - smells like a rich aged bourbon; smooth round mouthfeel with a boozy bourbon finish.

Bottle : 2014 version, hazy mahogany pour with a medium beige head. Aroma is toffee with alcohol and bourbon. Flavor is full of salted caramel, oily toffee, cola, cherry, vanilla and a nice bourbon background. Palate is salty, oily and sweet but not overly so. This beer was really easy to drink for a big beer full of flavor. I wish I had bought and saved a few more.

Bottle over 2 years old from 2013. Cherry with bourbon, oak, toffee, and caramel. Rich and syrupy yet, smooth. Aged perfectly. Great stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
